5.7 rods are typically used for larger stroke motors and give you more top end due to the time the piston stays at TDC. You would have to use cylinder spacers on those. I would opt for a shorter rod.

You could use the long rods in a 1915 but they would raise the power band quite a bit. You would loose low end. They are great for drag racing if you want to turn very high rpm's with big flow heads. Not the best choice for a stock stroke crankshaft in a woods buggy.

thanks guys. like i said, i'm putting mine together and i've just heard and read about some 5.7 rods in vw's. i'm going to stay w/my stock crank & rods for now. something just to go wumdin wumdin. odyknuck, you're right about the train thing. you and kurt are the only ones that's caught on to it in the several years i've used this screen name. my dad and i are members of a scaled down train club in tenn. by the way.. what is a good cam to use on a 1914 buggy motor? ummm, for right now i've got stock duel port heads and a single dellorto 40.

Engle 110 works great with that combo. Another one that works great is the VZ-15. Okie has that in his 1915 with stock heads and it runs really well.

my buddy was talking about a "tractor cam." any thoughts? said he's run it for years. then he stepped up to bigger and better combinations of 2180's with a vz 15 cam i think. how should i expect the vz15 cam to run with a "stock" setup with a single carb compared to a tractor cam? like where's is "powerband" on the vz cam?

I am running a vz15 in a 2276 w/ stock heads----- lots of low end torque!!! If you want more top end then go bigger valves. For the 1915 I would use the vz14 w/ stock heads!

with a single part of the fuel mixture gets pushed back up the intake for a second that cylinder goes lean and has a miss so you get a rough idel.with duals the mixture has no where to go so you have a better idel i think it is called intake revision or something like that.
