Guess I haven't been that lucky with them. Seems like something always comes loose and throws them way outta wack. But when they're right, it'll scream.... As Roger says, just one mans opinion... Now would I trade them for a single? No. Simple as that. To me they're worth the headaches.

Yap I'm sure things do loosen up sometimes. My old motor 2275had them and and you could get them down low rpm and right back to wide open on a hill. Frank Herring at muscle shoals set mine up.

http://www.alphafabindustries.com complete motor kit, its probably more than you wanna spend but would be a lot less Hassel than piecing a VW together, remember if your using a vw trans, 3 ribs for smaller motor like a stock 1600 vw, or six rib for larger motor like a stroker vw or ecotech or suburu

Thanks and i guess im better to buy used parts if im on a budget of around 4k max?

Yes big difference, if your gonna piece together a ecotech install I would recommend a early 2.2 they are easier, cable driven throttle body, and u could trim the harness and get someone to reflash the computer and the adapter and flywheel is around 600 from alpha fab, look at my eco install thread

The Eco should fit in that chassis without modifing, I had to cause I originally built my rear cage and made it to tight to the old vw

If I was u I would jump all over red Barron's 3.2 Acura. He posted everything is with it just check and see if trans adapter is a part of that package. It's one the home page currently. That's alot of power for that kind of money and would leave u enough topics up a good roller

I agree get it sitting on wheels first but it would be a good idea to start gathering drivetrain parts, also I would recommend air bags for the rear, way easier to adjust than stock torsion bars, find you a good front suspension out of a beetle, would not be a bad idea to look for a old VW beetle as a donor for the front and rear suspension parts would get you what you need to get it sitting on wheels and can always upgrade some parts as you go

I agree you can't get to far without getting the drivetrain bolted in to get everything hooked up around it

Ok great, good advice, so 6 rib and eco tec should be good? or go ac?, the guy which i bough the frame for had an old beetle, air bags good could also be interesting. i gotta ask since i dont know this, the engine does it only hold on the tranny and one engine mount or more mounts? got any links that can help me with building this since i have no idea how to install the torsion tube for IRS.

Thank you a lot! :)

Wow...Congrats on the frame.. Glad to see you are making some progress. What kind of frame is that. It looks like a Berrien Venture. I have never heard of a Berrien 1001.

Can you send some more pics of the frame? Especially the rear torsion and the front beam brackets. They look a little odd and they are hard to see in you current pics.

Congrats again..

For your rear torsion look like you could cut out the last truss brace. Level the frame, set the torsin on top of the tubing for a slick bottom style. Check for square to the front torsion mounts, level, weld and add gussets to the floor tubing. You can measure back and mark a center line for wheel base if a desired lenght is required. One thing we can't tell is the intended wheelbase of this chassis. Weld a new rear truss back in.

If the old guys beetle was complete, that would be the least expensive route. Buy the beetle ( if the price is right) and put all it's parts on there. I'd just recommend a three rib bus and disc brakes later. You can have a lot of cheap fun with a 1600 and a 3 rib.

Ok, so if i understand correctly, truss brace is tranny mounts? and gussets reinforcements for the tubing? sorry i really have alot of learn hear, and for the torsion tubes, ive been looking for a post of someone installing one with pictures but cant seem to find.
