What do you guys think about the running gear in this buggy? It looks to me as if he has put a chevy v6 and automatic trans as a unit into the back of this buggy. My question is what would be the max travel on a setup similar to this? The passenger side cv axle looks short. Sure would be nice to drop in a WC motor and auto trans as a unit. Maybe it could be offset to make the axles more equal. Opinions??

I absolutely love it. Great for the sand and street. But I could not find low gears enough for what we do, to go that route. And to center the motor, one vw trailing arm would hit the oil pan. And those 3 ball type cv's will only take ocasional bumps. They break real easy off road. So for travel, fit and low gears I had to weld the fwd diff and turn it longways with an additional diff in the rear. Without the rear diff the Passat has a 331:1 first and a 339:1 final drive and that may work in the sand or street but won't get it here. Has anyone considered a 1999-2004 Passat. It has the same trans setup as a Soob. Either, with 29" tractor V's would give the cliff climbers a run.

I think it has nearly no travel. Maybe 2" in either direction without breaking one of those 3 ball c/v's. Great for street and sand! Imagine taking your fwd car out to the woods. lol My 40" trailing arms sound real good now.

Anyone have a guesstimate as to the amount of wheel travel this setup has, or would be possible in a similar setup? Would it be possible to adapt 930s to the auto tranny drive flanges? Thanks

I agree Unclejerm, fantastic looking front wheels The only problem with them is they don't have those round things on the inside that make it stop. That being said, I have had those that say brakes are for sissies.

I got a fix for that. Cut a hole in floor and stop Flintstones style. Yabba dabba doo!
