I've searched all morning trying to find an answer. sorry if dumb question but I want to build a water cooled rail.
I can buy a running complete car from a guy at work for dirt cheap. it's a 97 Pontiac sunfire with a 2.4.
I'm trying to figure out if this engine can be used for a rail? I've read that 97 is the earliest motor you can use and that the ecotecs were based off of this motor?

I would think you could use any engine so long as you can connect it to a trans.

I would contact Kennedy engineering to see if they make an adapter plate.

I was just thinking it was a ecotec motor but I guess ecotec didn't start until 2000. I'll contact Kennedy

yes it will work. that 2.4 is known as the quad four. it has good power but is a little heavier than the ecotec because it has a cast iron block. nitro mudder on this site has one in his buggy.

Call Kennedy and ask them. More to it than just a plate you also need a flywheel to go with that set up. The crank bolt pattern could be different.
