I just bought a Vanagon for the side shift trans. I'm looking into putting a Subaru in it and driving it for a while before removing the drive line to put into my buggy......as long a I don't feel too guilty about raping another vw for parts.

I will be searching for a subaru donor car for the engine and other parts. Part that I will need are the adapter plate or conversion bell housing, exhaust, oil pan etc. The idea is to do this as cheap as possible. Any pointers or advise is also appreciated.
My general idea is that I will need to buy or fabricate an oil pan to regain ground clearance, modify the original wiring harness (diagrams available from Kennedy), fab or buy an exhaust, use and adapter kit from kennedy or bell housing from small car, create a motor mount, and decide where to mount a radiator. I read on here that I can just use a T fitting after the fuel shutoff to plumb in the return fuel line.
One thing that scares me is having some breech of the coolant system and getting scalded somehow. I'm not sure which motor I will use 2.2 or 2.5, guess it depend on what I find for cheap. I don't want drive by wire.
Thanks.
