i bought a drill press at lowes that i guess should have been taken back because it has a lot of "wobble" in it, so bad that it actually makes it almost impossible to use with any accuracy at all.

ive tried to measure it on the outside surface of the chuck with a dial indicator and came up with .010 - .012 runout but not sure if this is the best or most accurate way to do so?

the bad thing is ive only used it to drill out a couple of sets of wheel adaptors so its basicaly still new, i guess the reviews were way off on this one

suggestions or advise anyone????????????

Doesn't sound right to me. Technically I think you'd want to chuck your drill into the chuck and measure the runout on the drill and not the chuck. I would think it wouldn't wobble if it were new though. They'll take it back, no questions asked. That's about the best thing about big box stores, they are so big they don't care what you bring back usually.

Your a smart guy. That is the only way to check it. The spindle could be OK and the chuck could be screwed up.

yeah i thought it was to good to be true but ive always heard porter-cable was a decent tool and with the all the good reviews it had i thought why not give it a chance

I put a Porter Cable hole saw in my Sears LARGE drill press that is awesome.But the hex bit above the hole saw "bell" is very tiny compared to Lenox or Milwaukee so I had to chuck up much smaller to hold it. Well being that when you chuck up on something small the 3 teeth in the drill head have to pertrude way out to hold the bit.So while I was making do with the toy Porter Cable a tooth broke out of the head . I NEVER buy Stanley, Black and Decker or Porter Cable.Some will say, "Man I've had a Black and Decker for 20 years!". Yeah, on a shelf they do last 80 years.But I absolutly love that Craftsman from Sears.It was over $500 back in '05 but I constantly throw 1" and smaller drill bits with a 5/8 shank of coarse in it.Hole saws etc.You better but a piece of metal in the groove to catch it if it snags.It's powerful .Had a guy bragging on his 1915 a/c motor.Said it's been running great since the 90's!I told him I haven't seen him in the woods since the 90's. I was in his basement 1 day later on and he had it blocked in with a bass boat, riding lawnmower,Christmas yard raindeers and so on.The way it was positioned , it looked to have been put against the back wall sideways with a forklift.With old rugs thrown on it! All I saw was purple bars sticking out of the scrap carpet pieces. When you die, what good is a pretty corpse?lol.

We tooks da spock plugs out of dim so it can jus huff downa street.We took da push rods off doze to saves gas but it be runnin since da 90's too.

It is all made in china these days.
