I have searched a lot on this topic but have not got good results. I got a unknown rebuilt dual port engine in my rail with a junk progressive carb. I'm in the proccess of building a 1914 or 2165. I needs carbs for this build still.and my extremly stout running .. i quess 1600 . My question is how well would a set of 40 hpmx carbs run on my assumed stock moter ? Until I get my other moter built. Would they be hard to setup and tune ? I appreciate any help or ideas

Setting up carbs isnt as hard as it seems aslong as you have a little spare cash for jets. Put'm on, with whatever comes in the carbs, see how it runs, after sync'n them and adjusting everything. If you plan on going bigger on displacement may as well get the carbs now

I appreciate all the information fellas. Still kind of new to this stuff but I have spent the last few years reading up on all this hear and on thesamba. I have learned more that I ever thought I would. I owe y'all a lot for that. My main concern is them being to much carb for my temporary unknown moter .. I had that issue in my v8 days and it sucks ! I have found a good deal on true weber 40s new. How much better are they than empi hpmx carbs ?

True Weber are worth more money. It's money well spent in my opinion.
You can set up the carbs you describe to run on any size motor you want. You WILL have to choke them down to smaller venturis and smaller jets most likely, but you can make them run on any size motor. Keep all the stuff you take out so you can convert them back to run a big engine later. If you want to choke them down to run a stocker, plan on spending a few bucks to make it happen.
