thinking of going with efi this year. got it narrowed down to weber's redline
http://www.redlineweber.com/
or cb performance's quick tune
http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1665
does anyone have info or personal experience with either product?

That is a good question. The CB Quick tune looks interesting. But there was no price.

call 1-800-bendover for a price! lol
I would say both systems are great. I have VERY little trouble with my 44 Webers so I think I will keep them for a while..

I may switch over to EFI from CB Performance, I cannot keep my damn jets from plugging-up even I change the filters after I clean out the carbs from every ride. Maybe I am doing something wrong. I guess I have money to burn when time is right. (I have weber 44's)

Not right away, I am still going to run them for another 2-3 months, then when I tear the buggy down to get it powder coated, then I will start looking into EFI. I will keep those interested posted.

simple fix DELLORTOS

I never have to clean jets. Just keep filters clean and oiled and your good to go.

I suppose a comparsion is in order so here are my thoughts on it:

Dual Carb Pros:
1) Less expensive than EFI
2) Ability to adjust all 4 cylinders
3) Ease of tuning for some guys

Dual Carb Cons:
1) Dirt, Dirt, Dirt = Clogged jets
2) Hard to tune for a lot of guys
3) Flooding on rough terrain
4) Cold natured and no easy way to
compensate for various conditions

EFI Pros:
1) Increased Fuel economy (important at $3.00 to $6.00 a gallon)
2) Ease of tunning from your dash board when riding
3) Head temperature, Vacumme pressure, O2 (on some) and Throttle
position sensors for monitoring engine to control
percise fuel curve under all conditions
4) No flooding in rough terrain
5) No Jets to clog (not a good thing on a Narly Hill)
6) More consistant Horsepower thru out RPM and load range
7) No Floats to adjust

EFI Cons:
1) Expensive
2) Most systems for VW injectors fire at the same time and dont
have the ability to tune each cylinder so motor mechanicals
need to be in good condition (BTW carbs require it to)
3) Lack of understanding by most guys.

Here are a few thought to ponder, The Industry at large is producing less and less engines and vehicles with carburation. This is not by accident. Based on extensive testing the engineers know that EFI works better than a carbs. BTW even the later AIR COOLED VW motors went EFI

I agree with you on most of that, but manufacturers went to EFI, because the DRIVABILITY is better, not performance. And easier to diagnose and manage, thru computers. I think it had little to do with performance, and more with economy. I'm not saying EFI isnt great, but I cant believe it is better for our application. I know of a guy w/ pretty much unlimited budget that went to fuel injection on an AC VW. Toiled with it for half a year, had "pros" tuning on it, and said it was never as reponsive as his duals. Took it off and put the dells back on. Maybe it just hasnt been refined enough for us ?. Maybe he didnt have the right "pros" tuning it, I dont know ?. I do know that all I gotta do is think about my pedal and engine accelerates. Comes down just as good. I have to clean my idle jets maybe once or twice a ride, unless its a dust bowl. Mains have never clogged. Most guys need to clean jets less often than me. Once I got 'em dialed, they have never stumbled no matter how jacked up I'm sitting on a hill. You'd have to steal my carbs to get 'em  !

Fuelies DO look cool, though! And easier to run with turbo, from what I've heard.

Why hasnt NASCAR gone to it ? How easy would it be for them to regulate it, if everyone had to hook up to a computer during pre-race inspection? Hell, the officials could make every team have the same tune up if they wanted to. No need for restrictor plates. And they could monitor them during the races, I'd imagine.

All the drag racers I know that went to EFI, lost numbers. These are all bracket cars though. They were more consistent once everything was dialed in, which is more important to low buck classes, so most kept it, but performance was not better. And most said their cars would "pedal" better with a carb.

Maybe it is better, but I cant see it being $1500 better on a play buggy.

I have always had great luck with Dellortos and never have to clean the jets. Most of the people I ride with also run them and never have problems.

I solved my jet problem by making my own fuel filter using a sintered bronze element originally designed to use inside a quadrajet carb. I cleaned one 2 times in an entire year.

I appreciate your guys inputs, I will continue to run my webers until I figure something out, I will completely go through them one more time and I will put on the filters Eric D. recommends, then I will see what happens, just like everybody says, it's all about luck. :)

The idle jets pickup air from the top of the carb, right below the base of your air cleaner. The jet doctors are just an extension tube that goes on top or the idle circuit air intake passage. That way they are picking up air from 1 1/2" (or so) above the bottom of the cleaner assembly, instead of right at the bottom of it. I had a lot of idle jet clogging prob

I will let you all know how the Redline injection works. I am installing it starting next week.
