Red, I will try that cam if I can find one ???? I have a set of 041 heads cut to 94's with a hemi cut & ported...I have webber 44's also.... I'm either going to go with a 2165 or a 2276 so either way it ott to be good....

i have run a 2165 for years and it hasnt let me down yet..similar setup to what you have far as heads and carbs, but i run a 110 cam..it makes plenty of power as is, but i wanna try ratio rockers to see and feel the difference. ive always heard it really wakes a motor up

I figure a bigger cam will do better than the 110 but I've never built a vw so maybe it won't.... But I think the Carb's and heads will work... I had a builder in Tx. tell me the 041 heads cool better....

to each his own and in the end you have to make your own decisions but ive had engines as small as 1679 with a 110 and 1.25 rockers and as big as 2633 with a 110 with 1.5 rockers and i like it better than anything ive ran so far including the c35 in my 2332 which is supposed to be almost identical to a 110

ive also got a buddy who ordered a scat turnkey engine and they talked him into the c95 but after a short time he changed it out for a c35 and later on when it needed freshening up he put in a 110 and said that for the type riding and climbing we do that the 110 was better hands down regardless of how "close" everybody said the c35 was, and i know for a fact my 2332 is almost identical to his and is a flat dog in comparison of the two

like i said it all comes down to personal preferance and what works for one may not always work for another

What size valves are in the heads? If they are the factory 39x32 you should either have a bigger exhaust seat put in them or run a split duration cam. FWIW I would have stayed away from the hemi cut heads as you loose all the quench area in the chamber in turn loosing lots of efficiency.Don't be sold on the 110 cam with ratio rockers being a small cam with lots of lift for good low end torque.Adding ratio rockers increases lift AND duration. You can call me if you like 513-594-2879 after 6p.m or weekends.

Aaron, That multipalcation of the .039 must be way wrong.... I done a division on the big valve and it gave me .025.... I checked it wit the little valve and it come out to a 35 so it must be 40's x35.5's.... Thanks for your time on the phone I need to call Steve and talk to him a split cam may be just what I'm lookin for....

hey aaron, im always interested in your post especially the the engine tech stuff as you seem very knowledgable and im not trying to argue the point but can you explain how a ratio rocker alters the duration of a cam, i mean if thats the case even a stock 1.1 to 1 would "alter" the duration and if so would this not be true of any cam and rocker combination?

its my understanding that duration is the "time/degrees" from when the lifter leaves the base circle and starts on the "ramp" till it comes off the "ramp" and back on the base circle, in simpler terms how does a rocker arm effect the when and where that the lifter contacts the cam, i will agree that once the lifter and in turn the valve starts to open it will open faster/more than originaly designed but i would consider that affect to be a change in the ramp speed instead of duration, to me the only way to change the actual duration is to physically alter the cams profile :?

sorry for the derail but this is something ive seen come up before but never had reasonable explanation to go with it 8)

If I understand the system it will open the valve up to a taller lift and duration.... if you open the valve up taller it lets more in and out it will not change the lenght of open to close but the added height will let more in and out.... I think ?????

Chris, thanks for the kind words. The easiest way for me to explain is, the ratio of the rocker effects the speed at which the valve opens. More ratio =faster opening so the valve starts to open sooner in the cycle and is lifting farther, therefore it takes longer to get back to closed. I know it does'nt seem right, but it is. Most all cams numbers are figured with the rocker ratio they are designed to run. I am going to be degreeing a cam very soon and just for the sake of information I will do so with a stock rocker and the 1.3 ratio I am going to run. I will post my findings.

thanks for the explanation aaron, i guess its just one of those things you really have to get your brain wrapped around to understand so to speak, i reckon it doesnt help any that geometry and all that other complicated math were my weak points in school either :|

Well my heads came on today...I got a set of webber 44s with the linkage and intakes ready to go.... I need to match the ports up. I guess using a gasket is the best way to do that right.... Maybe tomorrow I will get down to Drews for some block work.....

Crower makes a split duration cam that works excellent with VW heads. I have built two motors with this cam and both are impressive. I will use one in my personal buggy motor when I have to split it apart for new bearings. The only drawback is they are expensive compared to Engle.

Roy, I was thinking of maybe a 21-25... I talked to a guy or 2 and they said they worked pretty good....I think somewhere around $90.00... I think that cam works good on the stock rockers ????

The Crower Cams work great with the stock 1.1 rocker arms and stock or lightly ported heads. No need to run high dollar rockers unless you really want to. If you do put ratio rockers on with these cams, make sure you check for coil bind and valve spring retainer to head clearance. My buddy runs a 61004 with 1.4's and it's close. We had to instal offset retainers to get it to clear. These split duration profiles work good with VW heads. If you run high dollar heads there are better choices out there for cams. Never use stock rocker shafts, always upgrade here.

Roy, With a 21-25 would you run dual springs and if so does the head require some work on the inside of where the valve goes through... I guess it may to let the inner spring fit down on the head ????

Jeff, You will need to run dual springs for the 121/125 cam and you will have to get the guide bosses cut for dual springs. Drews can do this while they are doing the rest of your machine or I can do it as well as get the rest of your machining taken care of.

Come on Roger,we would love to have your opinion.
