I am starting a 2054 build, well looking into it. I am pricing it out with the parts i got here and what i gotta buy to see if its gonna be cheap enough, if its closer to a suby conversion ill end up putting that in over the winter. My big question is can i shim out regular 94mm pistons to work with a 74 mm crank?

What size rods? I put a 88 in one in had to shim the hell out of it. I think it was like 270 thousands worth. Had to make long push rods and used stock lifters.

Yes you can use standard stroke pistons. You could even go up to a 76mm crank and have a 2109. Stock lifters will be fine but you might have to get the lifter bores in the block clearanced. Look at the CB uni-tech rods, they are a good part and priced right.

When you run a high lift cam you need to check the clearance between the cam and the head of the lifter at full lift. You need at least .050" between the two. A 40idf should run just fine once its tuned correctlty. What are you planning to run for heads?

i have a cam here but its unknown, my buddy looked through his cam book he got and he cant find it in there. im guessing im gonna run a w110 cam or close around that. nothing to extravagant. I am gonna run stock heads, but im gonna put some stainless steel valves and dual springs if i can afford to do the machining, if not im gonna run hi rev springs. I got another question, whats the diference on solid rocker shafts and the stock ones?

So i was talking to thor (cowboy) earlier tonight and he convinced me that a 87 x 74 build would be a pretty good motor, rev up real quick and just be snappy and it wouldnt tear the bottom end up. i like the idea, any body else have any thoughts?

from what i was told, you can do a 76 mm with stock style pistions. but thats as big as you can go, as far as i am told. i got the used crank, its pretty much junk im gonna take some emery cloth and clean it up a bitand throw it in a junk case with re ringed 87's and keep it as a spare.
Im currently looking at a 76 for my motor for next year. have the 87 pistons 76 crank 110 cam and all the goodies i want for it. dont know a cc on it. but the cc isnt what matters, its how you build it and how you treat it. THOR runs a 1641and its a snappy little motor

PM Aaron Creech or Darrell on this site they can help you with you questions. I think you can build a better mouse trap for the same money. There is always the chevy echo tech for a low buck build?
