Okay so my wife got me a new 2 KW Compu fire starter for my buggy. It is a 2180 motor I have been having problems with a standard starter not being able To turn it over. I put it on and it seems to sound like it is binding. what do I need to do to shim the starter I have never done this before with any of the starters in the past but I've had.

Are you sure you got the right starter for the right bellhousing?

I have a six rib transmission. I put a three rib bell housing onto my six rib.The starter I bought this for a three Rib bell housing . it all bolts up fine but seems like the starter gear and the Flywheel gear are too Tightly matched.

I would compare the two starters side by side. Make sure the shafts are the same size and the gear is the same.

This might sound funny but are all your connections good and clean? is there paint under ground connection? check and clean all battery connections.

well i finely got around to working on the buggy. took the starter back and got a different brand. what do you know it fired right up after a year of sitting almost no more binding and no struggle to turn the motor over. sweet!!!!!!! :D

Now i just have to work on getting it in time and tuning the carb.
