It has to be getting air from somewhere, fuel won't burn without it.

If it's running perfect except for a little fast, then run it like you stole it for a little while.you'll find out what it needs, lol. Chad

Thats exactly what im saying...It runs great, there is no major air leak anywhere, no cracks,no leaking intakes, all of those things would effect the way it runs . Its just the slightly high idle. Its just insane that i have no adjustment...lol..If anyone else heard the idle they would ask wtf i was talking about, But in my opinion its too high I should technically be able to idle it down so that it wont even stay running... Ima tear them apart tomorrow and dig deeper . Remember- I have never been able to adjust the idle because of no adjustment ...im clueless..

You should be able to spray around them to see if they are leaking?

Well, after reading and surfing the web til 2am last night....I have found that in most cases, worn shafts = worn butterflies, result egg shape that does not seal. Ima tear mine down to inspect . Apparently since webers are one carb fits either side...There are some flaws which causes this problem? One case , showed 2 washer around small bearing on one side, while only one washer on the opposite. From factory, causing the shaft to push one direction causing the egg shape butterfly.Other things i found were about the return spring tension blah blah blah...Found a million different reasons, lol First thing today im tearing them apart . I dont have any air leak at the ends of the shafts. which you would think if worn WOULD leak...so idk

Is that timing at 2000 RPM? Try retarding it a few degrees.

I recently rebuilt a set of 40's for a guy and the fuel enrichment pistons were gone. even with a block off plate that is still almost a 1/4" hole letting air bypass the butterflys. you can tap and plug the hole on the bottom of the carb to rule it out. I dont really agree with the 'ol worn out shaft stories i here from people. think about it, a dellorto single has a 1'4" hole drilled right through the butterfly, and runs just fine. i dont care how worn the shafts are, your not going to flow that much through it.

I suppose my conclusion to that old post, was that the one jet not having holes was not a problem and i simply forgot about it. So to know if this will solve it, would pulling the air filter assemblies off and covering those holes with tell me right away if thats a problem?

you plug them from the bottom side of the carb. Just look to make sure you have then in there and a block off plate. I would reccomend plugging them. it will just remove one more possibilty of failure when your out in the woods!

Gotcha. If one were missing wouldnt it effect that carb greatly compared to the otherside? Just a thought since the flow is the same on the carb sync gauge...or would it not register?

Heres something I havent touched - The choke tube fixing screw on backside of carb, has screw and locknut. Just like the air bleed screws.

   That just made my day lmao! I kicked the timing down a hair..Not sure it runs quite as well but only way to know will be to take it down and see this weekend. It dropped the idle, But to go enough to end up using the adjustment screws i dont see it running to well....lol I'll keep screwing with it and let you guys know what I figure out. I really Appreciate all the ideas. and The humor supplied by gasman. lol

Like Ody said...... what is your initial timing?? You said 30-32 degrees......hopefully that is at nearly full advance (at 2000 rpm or higher), not at idle rpm.

yes timing was set correctly. I tried playing with timing tonight with the light on it, really any adjusting makes it run like poo. So where it is/was is where it will stay.lol I cant see havin a buggy run like crap to have my idle where i want it.
