Don't know if it will be the same for the 4x4's but the whole hill climb racing series absolutely ruined the dune buggy world for me. Started racing at Wilburns about 6 years ago and it was awesome. Big hills, Big risks, and big balls. Now the riding.. good time end of it is gone for me. Everybody wants to save their rides for the hill climb race and fight for table scraps. Blow up a 6 thousand dollar motor to win 300 bucks. It's BS!! We used to ride all weekend and have fun. Now we sit all day and watch BS. I'm talking about absolute BS! Pussy hills with turns to keep you from going too fast and so the trees can catch you if something happened. Back when I started riding it was flat out dangerous around Alabama. I'm talking about full grown man hills. Have your life insurance policy payed before the weekend. I really looked up to those guys. They were my heros. Now its all about the series. Who the F cares? We all know troy, charlie, rob, louis, kevin, willie, darrell, marty, ron, rhonda, and everybody else i'm missing are bad to the bone!! Give them all a fn trophy and shove that racing shit up yo ass. We used to ride all damn weekend and have fun. I'm talking about fill up at the airport and bring 5 gallons with ya. RIDE! Now we sit and sit some more. Thats why i stopped going to the races and sold out. I FN hate sitting there all day. We used to ride damn it. Maybe i'm by myself in this but I don't know what else to do about it. maybe buy a rzr, join a forum, and apply for social security. From now on i'm not going to shit other than braggin rights rides. Ok my rant is over. Cuss me out and woop my ass for speaking my mind.

i agree 100% just in a more nice way haha but hey come ride with us we go out and climb the hills and keep it moving and fultondale and jemison have nasty hills but your correct on how its become i only been riding in my own buggy for 7 years or so and i can see a huge change i dont know if their will even be a bragging rights cause all i hear is how no one want to go tear their buggy's up i think the woodsbuggy series is a good thing in a way but also bad cause its changed how people ride its all about the comp now and theirs few good weekend rides anymore but we have a good little group who likes to get out ride climb and turn the tires whenever we are not broke and can go lol it use to be a small to mid stroker motor was all you needed and people climbed some crazy things back then

I try and ride every weekend, and I ride it no different.if it brakes or tears up ole well I was having fun, lol.that's what I built it for.buddy of mine broke down and I pulled up behind him and shoved his buggy up to creek to get turned around to pull out and his trailer ball tore the powder coating off my front end and he was tore up.he apologized about ten times for putting the first scratch on it and I just laughed cause it's a buggy.it's made to get scratched.powder coating to me is glorified primer, lol.I know guys that don't like to ride when it's wet cause they don't want to get their chrome shop rides muddy,or don't like running over trees or rocks cause it might scratch it,god forbid we make a trail or get off the beatin path but that's what I like to do.if it's running when event weekend comes around then great but I'm not going to ride it like it's a baby or not ride cause I'm afraid of it breaking.so I can agree with you if that's what's happening to you.do what I do.load the cooler and go,if they ride they ride, but it does get old riding by yourself but at least your riding and that's a good thing. Chad

I really enjoy racing in the series, I dont climb and do many of the stupid make it or break it hills anymore just for the simple fact that was the only one that was doing it for a while. Everyone else just sat back and watched as I destroyed my shit. We wen to leeds a few weeks back. 10 to 15 buggys there and Me, ron, fred was the only ones playing. If you guys think I have lost my balls bring what u got and ill send you home with your tail tucked between your knees. The last hill climb we had at choco the hills were very tough, only half the b class even made full pulls. A big chain drive didnt even make the B hill. Im not trying to be an ass either but theres just not many weekend riders anymore number one because of cost, number 2 is time. I work a full time job and just dont have lots of time to get out.

Oh and yeah I blew my $6000 motor up a few weeks ago for no money but just to make spectators happy. The hillclimb series is mainly there to get people from different places together to share what they have and enjoy riding together. Its nice conversating back anforth on here but its really nice to put a face with who you are talking to.

Here's Dave's take.I wish to God I could sit on a tail gate behind a cold one and watch hillclimbs all day! These guys have went to great lengths to put on a show for us.Drivers and organizers. I'd step over 10 naked women, well maybe 6.5 to get to it.Make buggy riding a mix of socializing , riding, fixing , get'n stuck, sitting around gabbing, and being a band of brothers.I even have a blast cutting trails and climbs with a little help..AND YES , showing off our crafts or skills is in all of our blood.

i understand the point about hitting the make it or break it hills its tough on the wallet to ride like that its not for everyone even as much as i would love to ride that way i cant always cause it would put me out for a while but its fun to have a group every now and then and go out and hit the bad ones i just miss the days when people would show up and ride all day and night but its also harder to do that with how small alot of places are today i hope we can get fultondale land back so we can have us some all day rides again even some night rides those are the best show up around 5 pm and ride all night

I too get bored with just watchin all day, BUT, I love the big get togethers. Havnt had any other chance to see so many different ideas (and different colored cookies, stir, stir) at one time in one place as I do at these events. And heck, a few of the drivers arnt half bad to meet either.

And you want big rides with night rides? Show up early and stay late at wellsville, we stop when the coolers are empty or the sun scares us back into hiding!

x2

i feel your frustration, went out a few weeks ago and it was nothing but fighting...ruined it for me and i havent gone back ridin at that place:cry: i love to get out and turn on my buggy, ive jus been avoiding the HUGE crowds lately..went to Fdale last weekend with a group of 5 buggies and had a blast, we turned tires all day 8)

i personally dont compete in the series, the hillclimbs for me are more of a carshow or a dragrace..love seein all the badass buggies, meeting folks and swapping info and ideas and of course..hearing them A/C motors singing  we gave em all they wanted at choco in march, some would argue that they where all A-class hills and nobody that lined up cut it any slack..had broke buggies stacked on the hillside

im not gunna cuss you or anything..i feel the same way at times, but at the end of the weekend its what i love doin..ill turn wrenchs and blow money (i dont have) all week jus to be in the woods come saturday

Those all nighters. Park an old camper in the woods or buy a house near the woods.People hate me because I want to expand new roads and climbs.Leeds is small because there aren't many roads. I hike for miles hiking out into the Promised Land.I come back like Moses to tell it on a mountain. And my voice falls on deaf ears. The very ones that want to ride all nite are usually the very ones that are afraid of cutting or pick axing.

I Ain't got the best Buggys but I hit shit balls out. Execpt smokey falls f that lol. But I like Ridin rough trails but only if there are a few others to talk trash to that's what makes it fun. I thing the hill climb series is overrated. Pussy hills (I climbed all of the at chocco in the dark) so... And another thing is those damn timers. Throw them mother F ers down the hill. The last 3 hill climbs I went to had it least 5 Buggys start off and tha things didn't work. I know shit happens but damn.

When we have our events rhw parks are open to ride all you want, so if you get bored then go ride. No body is forceing you to stay and watch. Yes the timers do act up from time to time but thats just part of it. I get pissed off when people get on here bashing what me and a few others here in bama busted our asses on to make happen while all you bitchers sat back and did nothing. So if you dont like then dont go.

I have totally enjoyed meeting all the people and friends I have made at the events that I have gone to but I'm not going to race anymore plus I'm a crappy driver, hit every tree out there. The last event at choco was entirely to long and I chose to pull myself from it to go riding. Love the event and the people but the racing is overrated. Lets just have some big riding weekends together. Buying a new SS tonight and plan on riding the rest of the weekend or until the cooler is empty. That's what I like and there's no fighting, bitching, or complaining and everybody I ride with has a blast even if they brake. I thought I would like the series more than I do but don't. Love the people, camping, riding, drinking but not sitting there all day in the sun watching people brake their equipment for nothing. I spent more money coming to them that could be made even if I could win and can't. Just my thoughts!!! And yes I do plan on coming to wellsville just to see the place and ride! 8) 8)

I did leave I would helped but nobody asked. I'm not tha kinda guy to just jump in some like that's y'all thing and I know y'all work hard on it. I give props to all who take there time n money to make it better. Ive been at other places cuttin and dragging trees and 90 percent of the others Are propped up drinking beer watching. Like Jesse said make the hills a rough challange at least. I don't wanna spend time n money to drive up sit all day and watch 30 buggy hit the same hills 500 times On something my golf cart could climb. I've rode with you Kevin an respect u and what ya do so don't take it the wrong way. Y'all got these bad Buggys big motors use em. Fact more ppl will show for a bragging rights or a bounty hill. Why?? They like destruction that's just how it is. I was just goin with this topic

To start off with...I love the hillclimb comps. I have met a lot of awesome people I now call friends as a result of them. As far as the money to be made no your not gonna get rich even if you win as a matter of fact your probably gonna spend more to go than what you will win but if your in it for the money then your in it for the wrong reason anyway. As far as how long they take to do the comps. I will refer to the past 2 bama hillclimbs. The finale last year was over around 2 o clock and this years was over after 5 o clock. Both were pretty much done the same way but shit happens sometimes to hold things up whether it's because of harder hills or timer problems or what not.Good example, Nascar racing, people spend tons of money to go to them and just sit there all day and watch cars go round and round. When wrecks happen you still just sit there. Don't get me wrong, I go to nascar races and love every boring second of it. Spend a lot of money to do it and get no money in return. And I don't even know the people that I'm sitting around. You can't plan for things like that. As far as the hills go people bitch because there not hard enough then they bitch because they're to hard. Most of the time the ones who are bitching are the same ones that sit and watch the 3 or 4 buggys out of a pack of 20 buggys that are hitting the hills and putting on a show for everybody taking a chance on tearing up there shit...which one of those are you? If you want to call your self a hill climber just shut up and hit the damn thing. A lot of people work there asses off to put these comps on and if you don't like how long they take at times then get in your buggy and go ride and come back from time to time to hang out. As far as selling out don't blame the comps for that cause that was your choice. maybe you should get a sxs then you will have a good excuse for not hitting the big hills. me and ceecee have only missed 1 hill climb and that was stoney because we were just getting into buggys and did not know about it and as much as we would like to make wellsville we cant make that one but wont miss another one if we can help it. we love this shit.

Personally the events bring friends and fellow riders together.the climbs are just an added bonus,I go to ride and catch up with people to have fun.the real experience is taking it all in and sharing a cold one and conversating with everybody.I don't go to win money.being in the woods and thrashing on my own junk on stuff that challenges me and my buggy is winning for me doing it with others that do the same. The racing just isn't for me. I'm not trying to take away from all the work that you guys put into it because I know its a lot of work. I've seen y'all drive across the state a weekend early to get everything set up for the following weekend. So if you won the whole shoot and match. You couldn't break even for fuel costs. What I think doesn't matter in the least little bit anyway. Just say we organized one hell of a ride and all tried to meet in the middle so its fare. I think most ppl that are hard core in the series would be like holy shit I've got too much on my plate as it is with having to travel all over America trying to keep up my points. Naturally on holiday weekends every park has a big ride so it splits the croud up. I love seeing everybody at the races but I've literally went through all the crap of getting everything ready and travel to a climb unloaded drove straight to the hill after it was over i had stuff to do back home so i loaded up and left. Didn't burn half a gallon of fuel all day. I know I didn't have to sit there all day but I generally don't like running off by myself. I've learned that lesson one to many times the hard way. I went to Curt's hill climb at d and k a long time ago. It was caos. I don't know how they kept up with any of it but it was awesome to watch lol spectator sport if I've ever seen one! I was a real free for all! We would have to have ten timers to organize something like that lol I dunno I know this web site is made to bring ppl together and it only takes one to ruin stuff. I'll keep my rants and bitching to myself from now on. Just got a little flustrated and let loose. I'm sorry for that. I love a Two wheel drive screaming meanie singing over the top of a hill better than anything in this world! I just need to get my redneck ass back in the woods and quit riding this computer.

What really agravates me is the fact that the rock bouncer guys and SXS guys have races and events all the time. You can go to their site and never see any negativity about it. Then you come to woods buggy to check out the results of an event and its bash fest 2012. Thats what i dont understand, we are going far and beyond what most people would do to promote and make what do get seen and you guys just bitch about it. If you want buggys to fade away again it will, we have to keep stuff going to keep people interested in it. Im not pissed at anyone for speaking their mind but just sit back and think about it before you do it. What are you doing for this sport by bashing it.
