I got a whipped pair of tsl radials on my buggy right now, and I plan on upgrading to v bar tractor tread. Before I do that, I'm wondering what my tsl's would be like if I studded them with carriage head bolts. I think this would be amazing in the dirt but I'm not sure about rocky stuff. What do you guys think?

OK now you are going to have to tell us how to "bolt" a tire.

I made a tapered t-handle to pull 1/2 in carriage bolts w/ 5/8 washers on the inside of tire and also on the out side of tire. I put the bolts between the lugs instead of the most popular way---on lugs--. By doing it this way it gave them less movement and sealed the holes thru the tire. Have been running them TUBELESS for three rides! Worked great till I pulled a bolt out from missing an inside washer---Thank god I brout my spare tires. Bolted tires act like having a locker rear diff.

I used 84 per tire with 2 nuts per stud and then weld top nut to bolt.

A TSL 42 takes 56 bolts 112 washers 56 rod cupplers 1 tube what traction

for what the bolts cost you could buy tires

In 2 tires 2 wheels 2 tubes 56 bolts per tire I have about 1700 bucks for 42 I run 44 rubber tires they are 1300 a set on alum wheels

holy cow 1700? how much time puttin them in?

I think I'm going to go ahead and do this since I plan on junking the tires anyway. I like the idea buggy 66 threw out using two nuts and welding the top nut. I already have tubes in my tires so I'm set for that, and I've seen videos of curt climbing so I believe him when he says studded tires dig. Why the hell not, If my 1641 tears my three rib up, it'll be time to build the big motor and get the 091. I'll keep you guys posted.

You said you don't use a washer on the inside because it pinches the tube...........Do you remove the bolt head? If not, what type of head does the bolt have? Hex,allen,? Do you smooth the bolt head any?

I used 1/2 inch carriage bolts and 5/8 inch washers. When you put bolts thru the lugs they flex more---go between the lugs and tighten with impact. Which ever way you choose will be great fun.

you guys think this will work on an old set of 4ply v-bars or would the tire fail due to being 4ply.

I have a friend that put about 20 bolts in a set of ditchwitch tires it was just enough to make then hook and I mean they hook

maby run a bigger tire and you dont need those studs
