Yes, you'll loose a bit more power through the gearbox + chaindrive than you would through just the transaxle alone. But it's probably around the 4-5% area...the engine is still putting out the same power though...

Well if he's got 200hp at the tyres, it ain't no 400hp motor!

Fwiw, ours makes 210 at the tyres, from 268 at the crank, if it went chaindrive (it never will 'cause they suck ass for our racing, but...) I'd expect around 200 at the wheels.

Hes said he was making 400 at the flywheel but by the time the dyno went through the chains and gear reduction along with 44 inch tires that was the reading. He took the guy that ran the dyno for a ride and he said that he couldnt beleive it after the readings he got. So from what im gathering is that the dyno wasnt set right with the gear reduction.

Either the gearing set wrong if it wasn't using an inductive pickup, or the rollers were far too small for that size tyre, pinching the carcass putting all the power into heat in the carcass.

Mind, you will loose a hell a lump of power through those big digger tyres anyway.

phillip is right, the chain drive itself shouldnt lose very much but the auto tranny and 44 tires is where the most of the loss comes in and yes if the dyno aint setup right it will play havoc with the #'s

Gotta be a dyno setup issue if it's definately a 400bhp motor.

If you were loosing 200bhp through the trans, tyres and chains they'd be glowing red after 2 minutes

Simple engineering FACT: In the world of mechanical power transmission chain is the most efficient, cheapest form there is. In the world of serious horsepower to weight (aka sport bikes) you will still see chain instead of something as silly as a belt drive, for example. Only when there are other concerns such as vibration, noise, longevity, and service life are gearboxes, shafts, belts, friction drives, fluid, etc. considered.

Jesse did you talk to Mr Burns? if not then don't assume. I ran a 2387 for years on my conventional buggy and then switched to CD I lost no power NONE. Don't let some one talk you out of something they know nothing about
