Go with the 5 rib, thats what me and rob runs to and they are strong. I dont think you can put oo2 stuff in a 091 case??? If you go with the 5 rib you can put a stock 5.38 r/p in and be very close to the 5.42 at a quarter of the cost.

You need to PM Eric Debord, I think you will need a 5.42 r&p with a 2.46 or lower 2nd gear, if you want to climb in 2nd gear.
I'm piecing together a 5rib now with a 5.42 r&p 4.38 1st and a 2.67 2nd, from an older gear set I lucked upon.
But seriously PM Eric.

I run a 002 trans with a 2.46 2nd gear and a 5.38 ring and pinion. Im running a 2500 now and pull it with no problem. Im going to put my 2386 on and feel sure that it will pull it fine to. The 5.14 is still gunna be a little tall in my opinion.

This is the question I was getting at.I know a couple people running the 002 and can pull 2nd like hell.if any of you have rode with vwtravis you have seen what he does with his buggy in 2nd gear with the 002.I will be able to tell you soon cause this is what I'm building now is a 002 to run with my new motor.say it's gauranteed to hold up to 300 hp so I'm gonna test it.has a unlimited milage one year warranty.if I can't trash it in a year then it should be a good one and will be a lot cheaper than building the 2 nd gear 6 rib.and that's with all new stuff.what do you all think.not trying to still your thread dink.Chad

What is the gearing in a second gear tranny? What gear ratio are you running in yours Larry? Just curious what the gear sets are that give it this second gear to run in and how does it compare to a stock 3 rib second gear ratio? Just wondering if anyone can answer this for me.Chad

I have heard 5.42rp and some where a round 2.46 2nd ? ? with 2500cc . Larry ???

That's right, Hyde
Dink, I aint trying to argue with these other folks opinions. Maybe it works for them.
But if you wanna climb bad stuff from a stand still, a 2332 aint gonna pull a 2nd gear thats GEARED LIKE MINE. And if you build a 2nd gear that a 2332 will pull, you gain nothing. The only reason they came up with the "2nd gear " thing was because that was the only route to the final ratio desired in a strong package. Doesnt matter what gear your shifter is sitting in, just matters that the buggy does what you need it to do.
Chuck says Weddle is out of our r&p in "excellent" grade (they did have a few of what they are calling "good", but no "excellents" ) and has been for a while, and say they probably wont get any no time soon so you might not have a decision to make anyways, availability may decide for you. They got a 5.50, but they say its a little weaker, has one less tooth on the pinion gear.
A 3.33 first and stock 6rib r&p WILL make you and your 2332 2seater happy, if it weighs less than 1500 lbs. or so and you run 31s.

Here's a cheap fix sale the 2332 and put a 2.4 ecotec on it and you will have no problem pulling second gear.
