Depends on the thickness. The set I made was 6061T-5 and was 3/4" thick.

I can get it for close to 90 cents a pound at work. They have three sheets 5'x 12' .

No grade Aluminum in 1/2" is strong enough for a wheel adapter . You need at least 5/8" IMHO.

I ran 1/2" thick aluminum adapters for 5 years that I made where I used to work at and they are tough but I dunno what grade aluminum they are and I remember they were like $4400 for a 4x8 sheet 1/2" thick and there was just enough left over after a job on it for me to make 2 of them, they have been beat hard and survived several rollovers that involves hitting the rear wheels hard, they are still straight and in great shape.

I've been running 1/2" adapters that afterburnt made for 2-1/2 seasons now. Not sure what it is but he got it out of a panel at work or something. I'm not easy on my shit and they have held up.

Plumberbill had a set of 1/2" thick adapter plates on his Buggy when he rolled at Hillsville. Both of the adapters cracked and bent. After seeing them I felt there would be no way i would use anything less than 5/8". A picture is worth a 1000 Words!

The one thing I will add into this is weight. I KNOW that Brad's and baddvw's cars do not weigh the same as Plumberbill and Ody's cars do. Weight makes or breaks everything, the more stuff weighs the more stuff breaks. Another item to think about, Brad you spend more time on your lid than 10 of us combined. I build according to the conditions in which I operate. I would suggest building several sets of adapters made from 1/2" material if my nick name were to be Flipper, which yours should be. :P

6061 t651 is a multipurpose aluminum the t651 means that its been tempered or you can say its been heat treated.its has good machinability and weldability a 1/2" x 12"x12" of 6061 t651 go for $38 now a 1/2"x12"x12" of high-strength aircraft alloy is $126 you get what you pay four. I think if the price is wright lets get some 6061 and make some adaptors
