Just bought a motor. Stock dp 1600 I think, it's was in a resto project a guy had and was running this time last year
But since then it's been stitting in a barn.
It turns over good and there's no endplay has the papers where it was rebuilt 3 yrs ago crank ground new bearings new jugs and pistons and heads were rebuilt.
Doesn't seem like it's getting spark where would be a good place to start
I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to engines but this being my first vw venture thought Id call on you alls experience to make my life easier

Does it have points or pertronix . Cheek the points set at .016 & clean with sand paper and brake clean .And do you have power to the coil .

Or alittle simplier way, clean the points (With the battery disconnected), put them in, set a business card in them to set your gap. And if you have power to the coil, make sure it is wired properly. - on a coil does not mean ground. Seen too many done like this. And no spark when they are wired this way.

My buggy was originally points, and it set for a couple years before I got it. After cleaning the points and setting them with a business card, some fresh gas, it fired up with no problem. Great thing about these vw motors is they are SIMPLE.

is a pointless distributor a direct replacement for one with points or does something else needs to be changed along with it?
