I have a set of street elimanator heads that has been cnc ported and I am wondering how much more I can get out of them. I know a man that just put some on his buggy that had been ported so much you can drop eggs through the ports. It made his motor unreal now. He is running a web cam and I am running a vz15 both are running 1.1 rockers, he is running a 86 crank and I am running a 90. What I am wondering is if I put 1.3 pauter rockers and have the heads ported out the tale will this give me alot more power than what I have now because wormmys 2387 will eat my 2500 right now

Put a bigger cam in that monster and let it breathe! Huge ports kill velocity and low end torque then you have to band aid it by running a tiny camshaft. In my opinion running ratio rockers on a VZ series cam is asking for trouble.I love Webcam cams.If I were building an engine of this size for myself or a customer I would install an 86a or 86b depending on heads and carbs. Both of these cams will require the use of at least a 1.4 ratio rocker.

HP is in the heads. The caveat is a good hand porter can realyy bring it out. Abad hand port can make the motor a dog and have less HP than stock heads. Hogging material out is not the way to go with a VW head. Its where you remove the material from that counts.

If the heads you have are CB Performance CNC ports those should be good for damn close to 200HP right out of the box if the rest of the combo is up to task.Bigger IS NOT better for a buggy motor. And no matter how good the heads are,the cam is what lets the air and fuel in.BTW Thanks Dave!

Sorry to get off topic but out of curiousity just what kind of time slips does that pro mod bug of yours produce. Car is very nice too! And i,m no bug engine builder but as a kid i went to the track with a couple of guys older than me that raced bugs for years and in the mid 80s they had an all steel bug that ran low 12s with an 1835 with 40dcns? i think? with stock heads ported by themselves. they were low buck racers and had to do all of it themselves. later moving to a dragster and 48 webers they were flirting with 10 flat.

I would send the stock S/E heads to a well-known VW engine builder and have them to port the heads and the manifolds to match to your specs you want by telling them what kind of performance you want, what size motor you are running, what carbs, what cam, what the buggy weights, etc., etc... That is what I did and I have a killer 2500cc motor now  CB Performance makes good parts, don't get me wrong, they make parts mostly for drag racing is because that is what Pat Downs does for a living and plays by on the weekends, I personally think the CNC ported heads will be opened up too much for a woodsbuggy IMO, I am all about torque and a very wide powerband, I don't hardly ever let my motor run more than 6,000 rpm and it is plenty for me with my tall gear and I can easily blow the tires out with a 3.10 first gear and sometimes in second gear on a hill.
