Looks like we will have 5 buggies in our group this year, one or two will also have quads along, we'll also have a couple of quad-only guys and at least one guy on a bike.

looks like a repeat of last year, so far as early heavy rains, high water and such just a few weeks before the big weekend.

here's some info on KY lake:

http://www.explorekentuckylake.com/weather.htm

Lakes Dropping About One Foot Each Day The lakes are still very high, about 10 feet above normal, but they are dropping. TVA is projecting Kentcky Lake to drop about a foot each day. We expect the lakes to be back to normal by Memorial Day or sooner. The new record for Kentucky Lake is approximately 372.5'. Kentucky Lake's record elevation of 369.99' set back in 1984 was broken Saturday when the lake reached 370.00' at 1:00 p.m.

I sent an email to LBL and this is the reply:

Quote:
We are hoping to have Turkey Bay open and ugly by Memorial Day Weekend. Here are just a couple pictures of the area during these high lake levels.

As you can see, the water is fairly deep.

You'll want to keep checking our Alerts & Notices page on the left hand side of our webpage at www.lbl.org.

Regina

I have the pictures but can't load them to a host until I get home. The water as high as the picnick table benches. in what looks like the area over by the cemetary.

Not sure when this was, maybe at the peak, so I'm sure its down from here... (maybe? it's about 8' up right now) however, the next few days of rain aren't going to help matters...

from itsajeep.org - posted by a Forest Service rep.

Turkey Bay Update - 5/11/11

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The water has finally started to recede a little bit........

As expected, many trails were blocked. We've reconned and cleared trees off the majority of the more heavily-used trails although I'm sure visitors are likely to encounter others on more interior trails. At this point its a waiting game for the lake level to drop about 4-5 more feet. Only then can we can get in and obtain a true assesment of the amount of debris we're dealing with.

I am hopeful that everything will be open by Memorial Day weekend. A lot of you have been offering to help get things cleaned up. I can't begin to tell you much those offers are appreciated! Once things become a little more clear on where/how much that help is needed, I'll be sure to make another post with specifics. Right now most of the cleanup efforts are being concentrated in the big campgrounds (fixing numerous electrical/plumbing/structural/road issues) where reopen processes take a little longer.

I'll keep everyone updated on the status. Thanks.
Kyle

All,

TB will open back up Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Thank you very much for you patience during this extended closure. The flood certainly had a major impact on everyone living near lakes, rivers, and tributaries. We're thankful the lake levels dropped down to a safe level before the holiday weekend.

Please be cautious while riding trails that are close to the lake, particularly those in the backs of small bays and coves. If you come across a large debris pile, make a note of it on the map and report it back the gatehouse staff.

I will also forewarn any potential campers.......the mosquitoes will pack you off! (also the reason I haven't scheduled another cleanup day yet)

Thanks again,
Kyle

we're still planning to go so long as they're open after all the rain next week. Three of our group will probably do sunday / monday because one guy is running a circle track car in Nashville Saturday night and two are going to pit / spot for him. My plan is to get there saturday and go ride around... if it's too shitty to have fun, we'll just go home with minimal losses. Can't swing windrock atm, and I hear it's a nightmare wet anyway - too far to drive and risk crappy conditions.
