Went to the vw shop yesterday, took these carbs with me....Ended up spending $180.00 and completely redoing them top to bottom getting all the jets needed new floats, rebuild kits, springs that were missing, and linkage parts. Emailed the guy I bought them from telling him that and he refunded me the 180, so I would be at the original price of 500 . So now i dont feel so bad about that guy or the the deal, But i think ill just stick to buying new parts from now on lol

I would suggest you boil the carbs in hot water. It will expand the ports so the dirt can makes its way out. Soaking them in carb cleaner may not remove the stuff in the really small passages.

Just a note, make sure you remove all parts that can be removed before boiling them. Boil them for 10 minutes then blow the passages out and then repeat the procees one more time or until well done. Caution hot! Certainly sounds like a Carb Cake recipe to me!
