Just thought you guys and gals would like to see some fabrication in progress. Doug just left to get some government work done with the plasma cutter at his place of employment so I made this video... Enjoy

Just an update : The " spring plates " are Sway-A-Way which measure about 5/16" and should hopefully flex and not buckle. The tread gauge is 6' 2 " outside with Jeep rims (Thanks Roy) and that is not much wider than a serious set of offset rims and some 3x3's. The trade off is the additional weight all this contributes because it is important to be able to roll over an upside down buggy! :D Thanks again to the idea men who came before me.

We have built it to the roller stage. The street wheels and tires are for the test and tune, I don't think the v treads would grip very well on the dyno. :D

click on the link you posted to youtube and look in the address bar at the top of the screen

you will see (watch?v=IrnhBnA2Lgg) at the end, highlight just whats after the = sign (IrnhBnA2Lgg) and right click on it and choose copy

then on woodsbuggy just click post a reply as normal and for the video, click on the youtube button on the top right corner of the "box"

a couple of youtube in brackets will show up and just right click between the center brackets and click paste

then all thats left is to submit the post

hope this helps, at least its the way i do video post, somebody else may know an easier way 8)

I haven't been there in years, but there used to be a construction road going up the hill across from ritas where we used to park. We never had any trouble with anyone and there was a decent amount of trails, being that it was right in town.

Bubbalowe and I have contemplated that very idea, Jesse. The only problem is the price. Sure we could just build the steel and let the customer gather all the parts to finish them... bearing housings, chains and sprockets ect.... But there are things done to the bearing housings that I didn't elaborate on such as they were faced off in a lathe to straighten out the camber. Firebug gave us a good starting point with his drilled sprockets and machined hubs. I'm just not sure if someone purchasing a set of bolt on babychains would be very happy about needing to machine all the parts necessary to complete them.

i see your point i would rather pay more money and just have all the woork done i would love a pair of these for my buggy tho if i had to get some work done myself its still worth it i hope yall can come up with a way to sell these i may have to get me a pair

That hollow place in the stub axle flange may need welded up. Mine twisted off in just 3 hours.Your set up is NICE!Let us know if the wheel wants to lean in. I had problems with that.

This is what makes the KY guys say uuuugggg. Man I know I am gonna catch it for this but every time some one builds something everyone jumps on here and tells how great it is ...And I am not saying it wont work but my question is Why? It weighs as much as a pack mule. And all this just to keep the front end on the ground.You should have just left it the way it was and just welded all that freaking PLATE to the front bumper and you would have got the same effect. Like I said not trying to bust your bubble it's just I have always been taught that PLATE is WEIGHT. And that's the one thing you don't want on a buggy. And I'm not trying to push a CD I am just saying. The only reason we ever built a CD was to save the trany .You can run a super beetle trany and a 2500 with 44 and cant hardly break it . With this you still need 930 joints and axles and a built trany what did you accomplish that you could not with a good set of 3x6? same thing . Still have the built trany the 930 axles and joints. If you want the front end on the ground adjust weight. Ballast works everytime. Once again sorry just keeping it real

I am very glad that you have shown interest in the build rockrockets. Maybe they were just being polite with the compliments. :oops: I am not insinuating that you are being rude :shock: in any way, you are speaking the truth.

Can you imagine the first guy that said "Why would you cut up that nice beetle to build a buggy?" :shock: Where would all the woodsbuggies be? I guess what I am trying to say is we like to fabricate and we do it because we can. You are right the plate is very heavy but its unsprung weigh hopefully it will just give it more traction. Will it work that way I don't know and its a little too late now. I do know we will put our heads down and proceed forward in an aggressive manor to finish them. Now I would love to sit here and keep chatting but I must return to the garage for more ecotec wiring 101. :wink:
