My buggy will be on the street 80% of the time im going to run a ecotec. I was going to order a Kep. stage 2 with a 6 puck but Kennedy told me they would not run that on the street at all (acted like it would rip my head) they said i should run some HD stock type. what are some of you guys running on the street.

thanks

stage 2 with a 6 puck is what i would run,i think a stage 2 with a stock clutch or cushlock would slip, ive ran both with a vw motor and cushlock would slip in higher gears, with that ecotech u gonna need some good stuff,i run a 6 puck brass clutch and they are perfect,,nothing like a 4 puck

Outfront Motorsports told me it was pretty much a toss up. 6 puck will never slip but is like a light switch on pavement. You have to get used to EXACTLY where your clutch engages or you'll stall on street a lot. They told me stock style would work great (for a while) but hard starts and hill climbs would kill it eventually with that much power. Damned if you do... Damned if you don't... I bought both. I am gonna try the 6 puck. If I can't get use to street driving it, then I will switch down to stock and see how long they really do last.

I ran a 6 puck for a while with a stage 4. It seemed to grab great. Just a little chattery on an easy launch, nowhere near as bad as a 4 puck, but dont think I'da liked it on the street. Worst thing about it to me was in a tight spot had to slip clutch repeatedly and it smoked it a little and was never the same. Once a stock disc cools (as long as you dont flat out roast it) it will grab again like normal. I liked kushlok better, switched it back. A sprung center stock or kushlok disc shouldnt give u any chatter at all and will be very smooth, and with a stout pressure plate it should hold the 170(??) or so hp of the ecotec. If you run hydropedals, use the smallest m/c you can find (prolly 5/8) and the stage 4 is not hard to push. Bad thing about a stage 4 on a vw is its hard on your thrust, but dont think you have to worry about that with a w/c engine. JMO

Thats what kennedy recomended for me also so i went with it. Its been fine for me so far. 3 trips to wellsville,1 trip to wheelers some play time at a friends, drunken flat tracking at a holloween party and a thousand or so street miles last summer. I'm happy with it so far.
