It is presently located in Tucson, Arizona, a mere 1600 miles from Birmingham, Alabama. This would be a two day drive for one person, or a 24 hour non-stop for multiple drivers.

This Chain Drive Rail must be returned to it's homeland, where it can once again dominate the hills and woods of the southeast.

I remember seeing that chain drive set up in the unmanned vehicle contest or something a while ago.

Yes, it was in the DARPA Grand Challenge. I just finished stripping the last of the wires and junk to get it ready to drive. Since I bought it from Bernard Burns, I am sure that it has less than 100 miles on it.

We are having a couple of warm days here, so I have been working on the buggy out in the yard, cutting off some of the leftover brackets and tabs from the robotic days.

This buggy is mechanically sound, but it ain't gonna win no beauty contest. It has been stored outdoors, and the paint is faded. Any bare metal parts are rusted, like brake rotors. It will be up to the buyer to decide on stripping it down to paint and freshen up, or just touch it up with a rattle can and run it.

When I get it cleaned up some more, I will take some pics and post them up, hopefully tomorrow.

As promised, here are some fresh pics. In case you are wondering about the white paint stripes on the tires, apparently they did that for the camera or some such purpose. I imagine the paint could be taken off easily. As you can see, under the Chain Drive are the two 44" Gumbo Monster Mudder tires, which would be ideal for bolted tires. Also underneath is a spare propane cylinder.
