Mandrel bent 90's don't hurt flow much. I can't put it back there as it has to be enclosed by bodywork by the rules we run to, so it would have to lay horizontal with little air getting to the top of it and nowhere for the hot air to go underneath either - the engine bay will be hot enough as it is

Who put a tube there?
3" exhaust mocked up and silencer in:

Okay, not the best solution, and finding a belt will be fun, but, the only way to do it:

Starting to look a bit tight in there now! That's the old rear cage, new one will be smaller!

you could make some big dollars if you sent UN5's and 483 5 speeds over here and even 3 rib 542's.

Post subject:  Re: Even we found a hill this weekend...

I've got 3 UN5's on the shelf, it just they're split down so I can fit some close ratio gears

Bit of very simple modelling, there's a good 30bhp of 'free' horsepower to come with some improvements to the piping/those crap intake boxes, but I think this will do us for the moment....

Can you still find UN5's over there anywhere? I'd love to get my hands on one or two of them. Shipping would be a little much but they are supposed to be very strong.

I can probably rustle a couple up, I'll keep an eye out, some you drop on cheap as anything, some people are asking the moon.

Shouldn't be bending many sump guards this time around :D

And a shiny pic to show just how much work went into moving the engine + box, lots further forward, a touch higher up, different mounting angle, transaxle casing modded so it could go nose-down....

Image

Much further forward, and a chunk more ground clearance to boot. :)

Just gotta get the rest of the stuff to feckin' fit....

New dashboard, needs a little tidying up and a brushed finish after the instruments are in but basically done:

And the only place Ed could find big enough for the airbox...

Will be drawing from the main airbox fed through the roof initially, just for simplicity and time saving - but at some point will probably have it's own feed from the side intakes.

That's actually my first go at TIG welding ally, usually my mate does it. Hence the welds ground off the dashboard

TIG welding takes hundreds of hours of practice to get it looking right. Keep swinging for the bleachers, you'll get the hang of it. Besides a grinder is just like an eraser to a writer and a tube of calk to a carpenter, it can make any welder look good.

Yeah, I'm fine with TIG'd steel, I can make that look like it's painted on, just the ally that's a struggle at the minute. :D

I don't think it helps having a gravel floor and a metal shed as it tends to get condensation and a layer of durt/dust settles over everything, I'll have to pick up a couple of cans of acetone to clean the ally down with and see if that helps.

Find yourself a stainless steel wire brush to clean the weld joints up. Use it on Aluminum only, a clean well prepped weld joint makes a big difference.

Yeah, I think it's just a cleanliness thing, but since it's for none structural stuff and it got decent penetration and no holes I wasn't bothered too much. If it were for a customer it'd be another matter :D

Okay, pulling out the stops now, rear driveshaft angle was on the limits and we weren't all that happy with it - it would work, but I think it would wear rather rapidly.....anyway, since we've gone to this much effort with everything else, today we bit the bullet, the rear arms have been ripped off and I have a desk full of shiny billet things....

Cookies if you can work out what we're on with, apart from shiny things:

You know how I said the dry sump tank had to go in a really bad place because there was nowhere else for it?
Well, here's praying we don't get too much of a love-tap up the arse:

Ed had fun making it though:
