let us know the prices ! im curious! i plan on beefing up the arms a bit and polishing my cvs so i think i will be fine. can someone find me the picture on how to brace the carrier and the arms? i know i ve seen it on here before but cant find it!

I will Dave, and btw I didn't know you had empi cv's. Wasn't trying to dog on them, just quoting what the guy said.

Also that was one of the things he wanted to do on the arms he was going to sell me. He was going to use a reinforced carrier. Also he wanted me to buy these high quality bearings from him. He gave me along explanation about how they handle outside lateral force better or something. In one ear right out the other.

That's where most of you F$%# up. Those folks have built more race cars than you can think of. If they tell you something it's not for their good, it's for yours. That is why most times I will say nothing and let you learn your own (expensive) lessons. Sorry I wasted your time.

What are you talking about dude? I was making fun of myself and how I was unable to retain all the info he told me over the phone. Not saying that what he told me was unwanted information. He gave me alot of good advise in a short time-span. Unfortunately I didn't retain all of it. Also I talked to a guy named Todd at Avery aircoolers. So how could you have been wasting my time? :?:

everyone bashes empi, have been for years, thats why they have listened and started improving there parts, you cant stay in business that long and continue to sell junk. besides after reading about and watching a few vids of polishing and clocking cv's, now i understand it fully and it makes a ton of sense! something i have never done, but will always do, now! lets just call it "workin with watcha got"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsIn3z7dbjc http://www.dune-buggy.com/techtips/cv_j ... ishing.htm

Someone asked for the Avery prices. Hope its cool for me to post this if not someone let me know and I'll remove it.

I would suggest SAW axles and GNK/lobro CV's but the price of the EMPI stuff is pretty attractive. It is up to you.

3x3 trailing arms pr. $495.00 weld on shock mount plates (4) 25.00 2 type 1 to 930 stubs 100.00 2 002/930 trans flanges 100.00 2 ty 1 axle core charge 40.00 or You can send me cores 2 002 flange core charge 20.00 or You can send me cores 4 VW outer roller bearings 123.60 2 5206 double row ball bearings 56.00 4 seals 7.80 4 CV joints GNK 79.00 SAW 19 1/4 axles (2) 310.00

or for the axles/cv 4 Empi 930 boots (4) 96.00 24 3/8 24 ferry cap bolts 28.80 Empi 19 1/4 axles 185.00 Empi 930 CV 47.78 or Empi kit CV,Axles,boots bolts grease 482.00

So to buy a complete setup from them is 1593.40 + taxes. Chad

Yep plus shipping. Probably around $1700 before its all said and done. When I got some time I'm gonna sit down and figure out which parts I might be able to save a few dollars on and buy locally, or buy empi. I think people have said the empi axels are pretty decent.

Sure makes 2x3's with stock bus axles and cv's look a lot better, lol.its getting more and more expensive every year.but you gotta pay to play.have you shopped around? I bought a hot vw's mag the other day just to see what stuff is costing anymore and it's all costing more.but I would rather spend it on my buggy than anything else, keeps the rest of the world safe, buggy riding is my mental therapy, lol.Chad

Yeah and I even have bus axles and inner cvs's on hand. I wonder what the ground clearance difference between 2x3 bus inners type 1 outers vs other setups.

You just need to buy type 1 to bus stubs,or you can weld a new flange around the outside edge of your type 1 stubs and re drill for the type 2's and have machined out to fit the bus cv's.I've got a set of them I made.I can run bus or car on the outside.you will want bus on both to give you more angle to achieve more ground clearance.3x3 vs 2x3 only gives you an inch,so it could give you a little more clearance because the axle is a little farther out to reach the same degree of angle.but is it worth the extra money for an inch, that's a question you'll have to answer for your own needs I guess.Chad

I'm just trying to help a fellow buggier out cause I'm on a budget too.

My buggy is running stock boxed arms, 924 porsche axles, cvs and stubs to a 6rib. The cvs have 5 degree more travel than bus and only 3 degree less than a 930. The porsche stubs and cvs are the same as thing. They have a 100 mm flange (no machining) and are a direct fit in the stock bearing housings. I picked the axles and stubs up for $150 from the boneyard. If you could find a set all you would need is 2X3s and 18 3/4 bus axles. Bus axles $50 2X3s $200 Stubs and cvs $150. Maybe notch your spring plate to get a little extra height. Total around $400 vs 3x3s at I think I saw $1700. But as Gasman said it's all in your preference.

I already have my bus axles just waiting on Sawyer to build my 2X3s.

Just another route to look into if you want to save a few bucks.

Interesting. You didn't have a hard time finding a Porsche in the junkyard?

Yeah cause that $1700 doesn't even include the shocks. I've only got about $1300 right now.

Yeah I'm seriously considering 2x3's with bus axles. Main thing is I wanna get back out on the trails in time for spring.

Since you can't find a porsche in the boneyard here is a link to some thing axles.....

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1238009

It's only $50 more from what I paid for the pair. That would be around $450 instead of $1700.

Nice. So dumb question. Is it just the stubs in that add that would work for me in a 2x3 application?

Stub flanges are 100mm and will fit in stock type 1 bearing housing. The cvs are 100mm so they will bolt onto a bus tranny. If you have 18 3/4 bus axles... All you need is the 2X3s then. You would use the stubs and cvs in pic not the axle.

Where ya from Manther?

OK, and from what I just read wile searching around. Things cv's at least have a little more angle tolerance tan bus cvs. Correct?

Anlge tolerance probably goes (Least to most)?

Talked to the Guy at Avery's about 2x3's. This is basically what he said
The price for the 2x3 ( the size we make for the bus drive axle application is 2 1/2 x 2 1/2) is the same as the 3x3 arms at $495.

Haven't had a chance to ask him why its 2 1/2 yet.
