Well at this point we cut all the old shock brackets Off and are getting ready to install new brackets for the air shocks

Well we decided to go a little farther today. Went ahead and took the motor and transmission off the buggy. Transmission is going to Chuck Jones

That's a nice looking buggy. I wish fox had a recessed schrader valves. I think I've broken 3-4 off mine.

How big of a nitrous shot can air cooled engines take?

I've always wondered why you don't see more buggies with NOS with the high quality rods and pistons available.

'cause if you've already bought the pistons and rods, may as well spend a few more dollars and have the engine make more HP all the time instead?

It takes more than a few more dollars to create the horsepower of NOS.

Not if you're already stripping the engine for forged pistons and rods...

Not meaning to hijack this thread with a discussion on Nitrous, everybody knows that given 2 like built engines the one using Nitrous takes the other's lunch. I was only saying that with the proven technology and the bolt on kits available for VW engines that you would think more woodsbuggy guys would use it. :?:

I think the real reason you don't see nitrous in the woods is cause a lot of us like to drink a few beers. Some more than others, don't think a "go baby button" an alcohol mix to good.

well another reason is that some people think you can just bolt it up and got instant horsepower when the truth is to get the true effect of it you have to retard the timing of the motor , have bottle pressure around 900 psi , have some type of a purge to get all the air out of the lines . nitrous is not a realistic idea for a 60 year old motor design plus to be reliable you would nitrous ready pistons

Actually a rhetorical question. I like the idea and think Darrel is right in putting a NOS on a buggy. As for the alcohol infused bad decision making you could always argue that the go baby button would get you out of trouble when your alligator mouth bites off more than your canary ass can handle

when it comes to nitrous in a carguys its not my first rodeo on nitrous oxide it's all about timing fuel mixtures piston ring gaps and these days nitrous controller which I have that controls the timing fuel pressure and a lot of other things. nitrous controllers if it sees fuel pressure getting low it will automatically shut the nitrous off that's just one example . As far as 50 yr old parts I don't have any n my motor if you think about it the block is aftermarket the crank is aftermarket the rods are aftermarket forged pistons and aftermarket heads aftermarket gears aftermarket cam and rockers I think the only thing left VW is the tens
