If you would have used the suby bell you would have the suby clutch too. I would think it would hold up way better than the veewee. But like me the bell came out right after I was done building my buggy.

they recomended a puck with it to handle around 200lbs of torque, reguardless, they shouldn't call it a stage 2 if its not as heavy as a standard stage 2. Hyde had the same problem with the a-arm buggy

Ody needs a clutch that would normally live in a semi, that should get you a season or two. :P

The starter gear kept falling of my hi torque starter from Kennedy. I would pester them until finally one guy there said my 3.8(Der Panzerwagen) had so much torque it was microscopically twisting my bellhousing, moving the gear against the flywheel and tearing things up.Watch out for that. 2nd most of yall know these heavy pressure plates are wearing out your thrust bearing and eventually the thrust cut on the block. And 3rd , don't you hate building a fire breathing motor and have the dowel pegs twist off then spend $400 to get the fancy flange.I'm in the middle of my winter Passat project.I just picked up another fresh Passat motor with a massive 10ea.,12 mm bolt flange 10.5 inch clutch 10:1 comp ratio, 175 hp, factory balanced ,fuel inj motor for $450 and boom ,I'm done.It loves 93 octane. It has unreal rpm! Got the fwd trans for $150.No adapter kits starters oil coolers ,oil pumps, carbs, press plate, clutch ,slave cyl. header ,alternator ,lectric fuel pump, distributor, cams ,rockers, jugs, rings, machining, rods ,porting heads, NOTHING to buy.No buy and try , buy and try,buy and try! This year I got front a arms,16x11.00 tires 14Lx3w trailing arms and power sterring and over 21inches of ground hiegth front to back..Shortened 118" wheel base x 84" wide.Cut TSL 40's.Yes I am that Jahova Witness at the door that won't git.740:1 1st, 550:1 2nd and 390:1 3rd and 4th and 5 th whatever. (gearing compared to a 5:38).Remember. It's not how fast you go well, but how well you go fast.

Ok well back to the topic of the thread... I ran 4 puck and stage 2 kennedy and it grabbed extremely hard..Thats why i was destroying my trans..I was only running stock gears but when i switched to a different disc my trans would hold up longer than one ride.

currently running kep stage 3 pp with a 6 puck clutch(http://www.appletreeauto.com/6-PUCK-CLUTCH-DISC/?page=1) sense nov. 2009 haven't had any problems. before that, i destroyed a kush-loc clutch with a kep stage 2 pp.
due to reverse gear taking a dump at the end of the season, i will be inspecting the clutch soon.

passat 2800 you have a colorful way with words. i think you could have a career writing children books :D

I've been running a stage 1 kep and kushlock since 2003, I'm still with the same pressure plate and on my 2nd kushlock disc.
Maybe it lasts so long cause I never have to slip the clutch with the suby engine, to keep from bogging out.
I also have weedle's lowest 1st gear with 486 r&p.

Yea I am running a Weddle 341 first and I am not real happy with it. Should have went with a 375. BTW mines a Subie also except it does have that little extra Power puncher called a turbo lol.

I believe my 1st is 4.38, weedle only offers a 4.25 now.
I usually run 37" tires.
I can let it get down to 600 rpm on a steep hill and it still comes back if I call on it, without using the clutch.
My regret was using weedles lowest 4th gear, at 6500 rpms in high it might run 70mph with 37" tires.
If memory serves me right
1st 4.38
2nd 2.46
3rd 1.75
4th 1.30

I've been running the same clutch set up as Bill with a stock Suby and it seems to be working out pretty well. 6 puck has plenty of grab but isn't as jerky as a 3 or 4 puck.

I ran a 6 puc and stage 2 pp with my buick 3800 and it would break a side shift every year. The case would crack between the bellhousing and the rt cv hole. Then the flex would let my pinion bearring move apart and sure enough I would loose pinion teeth.I put a stock vanagon clutch in it with the cushy spring center and I haven't done it since.(But it stayed parked from 07-10).So when my son Austin and I, put a 5 speed vanogon in his in 2006, we used a type 1 h.d. springy clutch and his trans is still going strong. We also put a piece of 1/16" metal in between his bell housing and trans too. Then ran the trans mounts off of it.No thicker , because the large dowel pegs on both sides will loose their reach.Maybe yalls set up and luck is different, but that was mine.
