i just bought the duel 44 webber carborator kit from cb performance. and the air cleaners that came with it, had the aluminum plates on the top and bottom, which im using, and the element that came with the kit, was uni foam element, now i used to run the k&N knockoffs, with the foam over it. i recently bought some outter wear bags, i didnt try those yet. now my question is, what is the best set up to run?

One thing you may want to consider getting from CB is their Jet Doctor kit. It is about 20 bucks per side and what it does is changes the way the idle jets draw in their air, it moves the air intake for these jets from the top plate of the carb where contaminants are settling (ready to be drawn in and clog a jet) up into the filter. These are easy to install and worth every penny. Also, get some K&N Filter Sealing Grease and slather that on the top and bottom seal of the filters before they go into the housings. Some spray filter oil is also a good investment, I like the kind with red dye in it so you can see where it is going. A light coat of this on the elements before the Outerwares go on (trash those foam things, they are too course and pretty worthless) and you should have no problems.

Not a bad idea also to somehow cover the filters to protect them from mud and dirt getting kicked up from the tires. Someone needs to start making this product in aluminum, a lot of guys use upside down cutoff bathroom trash cans.

I know it seems like a lot to do but it is well worth it. I have not cleaned an idle jet in two years.

I run 40 IDF’s (Webbers) I also use the K&N nock offs and the foams. But how I use them is the trick. I oil the hell out of filters with the K&N oil or a filter oil spray equivalent. Then put a thin layer of grease on top and bottom of the filters. Put your tin’s on top then get your foams and take some engine oil (10w or above) and kneed the foams until all worked in. That way the pre-cleaners will catch most of the dirt and dust. I can go an entire weekend of Wellsville dust storms and go home strip the pre-cleaners off and the filters will still be super clean. Then just clean the pre-cleaners and your good to go. If it’s a long trip I’ll put spare set of pre-cleaners in a bag oiled and ready for quick change out. I never had to clean a jet yet. But the bet way is a completely sealed set up the big housing with the element in side. Do some research on this site there are a few guys that have really nice set up’s that I would like to copy some day. Just my two scents hope this helps!
