i was under the impression that hi torque starters lasted more than 2 years... it has been giving me problems, ill try to start and it will just click, then spin like hell when i give it another try... now it wont even click..

Who's starter is it? I have a Super Starter that's 4 years old. Are you sure you have all good connections, battery is fully charged and all the basic stuff is right??

i had a starter like that when i first got my buggy but it was not a hi-torque starter and that guy that had it before me said he didnt care it would start sometimes he said, so i took it to get it rebuilt and there was a plastic thing broke off in it

i put a light on the ignition wire to starter, no juice there... push button start switch was the problem..

I have to take mine apart once a year or so to clean everything up in it. The inside usually looks like it was from the Titanic But I have never had to put any money into it.

I have a 6v starter that has a 12v gear on it and it has been starting my 4.3 for a couple years w/ no problems and it was a lot cheaper than a true Hi torque.

I have built a lot of those... they work really well. The main thing is to make sure you have/keep a good bushing in the trans... 12 volts will NOT burn up a 6 volt starter unless you crank it for a long time. If you h ave an engine that starts easily the way it should, then the starter will last for many years.
