 Post subject: cv angles too high

hey guys, i am in a bit of a percidment.

I kept breaking cv's because there was too much angle on my cv's. So we dropped the front of my transmission. now there is still too much angle. We wallered out the holes for the front transmission mounting plate, still the same problem.
Anybody have anyideas on what i should do? I have 2 or 3 weeks before the next ride. Wellsville anyone then? my buddy just built a truggy that should put on a show. ill post pics when i can.

What CVs are you using. Are your arms stock length and withe? Have you actually used a protractor to determine if your stops are within the limts of CV travel?

im running Thing joints, thing axles, stock arms, 3 rib, thing torsion. and its 24 degrees. one is fine but the other isnt, drivers side is the one with the problem

i run 15 to 17 deg. max with type 2 cv's . i would imagine you have way to much angle drop your torsion or use limit staps.

the thing joints can handle close to 23 deg. what would be the best for limiting straps? i really do not have any chain and i am on like a 0 dollar budget. lol, have to get a motor together

Is your trans in the center of the frame? Its either offset or you could have a bent trailing arm or torsion housing.

The $0 solution and the correct way to fix the problem is re-index your torsion bars. It sounds like your torsion bars are not only set to high but also different from side to side. I tried to keep mine high because I liked the ground clearance but the ride was way to rough and I would either break the CV joint or boot on every trip.

Remember... if you are running 24 deg while standing still, your tires will fall lower when you come off of a bump and push your angle to 26-27 deg. MAX is 22... you should try to run 18-20 deg and leave some room to move up and down.

If you have question on re-indexing the torsion, just do a search or ask. Lots of people here should be able to help.

Well guys........ i fixed the problem. It will be a rough ride. But i put chains from my trailing arm, where the mounting plate for the spring plate meets the actual trailing arm, to where the bump stops should be on a stock VW torsion. i went from 26* to 22*or21*. The reasoning for me sitting that high was that the stops for the spring plate were bent down, well way down. So im putting my tranny back in and trying to now get my da(% shifter working. :evil: it will not go into first. when i had the tranny out to change my oil in it i replaced all the shifter linkages in the nose cone.

But now after we go riding in wellsville on the weekend of the 10th, i am going to make a new front mounting plate for my 3 rib. Because the tranny IS offset but i have kinda solved the problem. thanks for the help

yeah they are. i am builing a new stop over the winter. I finally changed the plugs and got my axles back in,took it on the road for a test drive so istayed clean, and it feels like it pulls more, likeit hasmore torque. Idk at least it moves now. im afriad of my shock mounts/bolts?
