If your going to run an Air cooled engine get a professional to build it, There are many tricks to make your money go farther and extend the life of your investment in your Air cooled dinosaurs. The guy that goes by Darrell "Get you Sum" he knows his Air cooled engines and knows how to make em live and run strong. Make sure your wallets good and fat because anything good in the AC world comes with a steep price tag.

Those of us that have gone to the dark side have done so knowing that we will sacrifice some weight and simplicity of operation for the trouble free, stout horse power with a pile of torque. I love my Acura 3.2 it is Honda and everyone knows you can't kill a honda engine. All but one Hill climb this year was won by a bad ass 3.7 Acura MDX powered buggy, Nice car Tim.

My motor is the last thing I've ever complained about on my buggy.... It seems like W/C homos are the only ones that are c omplaining about leaky oil, noisy valves, or clogged jets.... I've never once heard a true A/C guy complain about these things.......

I think you missed the point most of us use to be AC purist. We just grew up and started playing with bigger and badder toys. I will give you that an AC has a weight advantage in hill climbs but running flat out in the baha 500 a water cooled buggy beats the AC every time.

The reason you don't mind is because you don't know any better. For ridding in the woods and having a conversation with the passenger I will take the WC as it quiet until you hear the vetch come on at 3500 rpm.

Just give it time and ride in a WC you will find yourself on the dark side too. Happy trails Red Barron out.

I am with Mouse, I would check them frequently (once a month) and adjust them three or four times a year. Since I went to the dark side I have only adjusted my valves once at 135,000 miles. Show me a stroked AC that will last 135,000 miles then I can show you how to install a leak free cooling system. Good hoses and American made hose clamps (Tennessee) from Amazon hose tighten and it's leak free.

What the AC guys never mention is that the WC cars don't leak oil like a VW. I think Daryl can build you one that is fuel injected and does not leak. It's a freak of nature though.

I believe when this thread began I gave my experience when I use to be a purist AC guy. I can't help poking you purist once in a while since I have moved to the WC side of things. I apologize for hijacking the mans thread by hey it has been fun. I can see I have stepped on some toes and ruffled some feathers but hey it is all in good fun.

I look forward to riding with you guys in the future.

Sounds like a dream come true. I don't know all of the Builders around these parts, I have met some great people with some impressive machines. I have enjoyed the discussion and learned a lot. It is a joke and nothing more, my signature that is. Lets let this guy have his tread back.

X2. Built by creech
Beat by Nichols

Variety is the spice of life. I love checking out other people interpretation on what a rail should be. That's one of the things I love about it. Every rail as different as the owner. I wouldn't want it any other way. When and if I ever have a rail with other than a a/v motor it will be a v - 8. With big chains on it.
