hey got a some question about motors... here she goes got a 1600 single port motor compression is 60 psi on cyl 1 and the others around 90 psi.. so i guess need new new pistons and jugs.... this motor is on a budget kinda.. my opitions in budgets are a 1641 or a 1700-1915 build. i herd that the 1641 is the pistion r on the thin side.. maybe.. and the 1700 has maybe machine work also... but if i do the 1915 machine is requried and i would do a mild cam plus all the shit needed to do.. or lastly a stock 1600 with new pistions-jugs-and the dual ports heads i got.. i want to keep on a buget so some import wold be great... i kninda like the 1600 motor,i have a 3 rid tranny... let the fun begian i guess :( input now thanks

take the jugs off and if the cylinder walls look good re ring it and run it check the end play while you got it off thats probably the cheepest route jmo

Make sure the valves are adjusted right before you go tearing it apart.

If you do just re-ring it spend the extra few dollars and put new rod bearings on it.the cost and time is nothing and easy to do.I recommend never re ring without new rod bearings on an old motor IMO.going 1641 is same money as buying new 1600 jugs and jug thickness is not a problem.if your block is good and doesn't require line bored then it's around $90 to have your block and heads cut for 94's.and then of course a new piston set,new bearings, and gaskets.I'm sure you'd want to put a cam in it since you've went this far as well.and then from here you can add money to what ever upgrades you'd like to have. ok i made my decision gona build a 1641 dual port motor only going to put new jugs-pistions on. i want a nother carb too... my budget is 500.00 at max. was thinking on a webber/ progessive is that a good choice think it is like epc 32/36f is that a decent choice.. or what would ya recomend. :?: :?: im pretty set on the 1641.. the orginal motor is a 1600 single port.. dont want a single port or the junk solex carb. ooo yea its a two seater tires are 31-15.50-15 goodyear terra xtracter with a 3 rib tranny mostly trails and some hills wellsville riding

With a $500 budget I would do the 1641 and get the heads fly cut to up the compression a little. As far as carb I would run either a 36 dellorto or a 40 weber idf. My 1st buggy I built a 1641 and fly cut the heads and put a vz15 cam in it. That thing would screem. I ran the same tire and trans combo you have to. Just something to think about. :)

If you get a progessive get a new one I have had 50/50 luck with used ones .a del 36 or weber 40 will work to a litte port work and a small cam and 9.5 to 1 cr will help a lot .

1641 and 3 rib is a good combo for first buggy.new jugs set,110 cam,new bearings, and you'd be under that price easy.single port 1641 ain't bad motor unless you just want to run dual port.but either way you'll have a good little motor.I run a progressive 2bbl on my 1641 and it runs it great.but if your not going to split the block and just put the jug kit on it,pull the rods and check them and put new rod bearing on it,it's wise money spent for the little it cost to do it while you've got it down that far.Chad

thanks for the input.. also thinking of getting a lighter flywheel too.. cost to cut is 60-80 or a new light one is 125.00 so leaning towards a new one :D :D
