Just joined site after weeks of reading countless posts. Woodsbuggy is by far best vw/buggy related site I've been on, hands down!! congrats on great site. Currently running an old Berrien 295 classic buggy. Nothing special but a real reliable and all around good rail. Motor is a simple ol dual port 1600 with solex carb, 3 rib tranny, set of 31x15.5 V treads on rear, spindle mount wheels and 3 rib tractors on front, This is my 2nd rail and after years of owning/riding 4 wheelers and dirt bikes I'll NEVER go back to atv's or bikes!!! NEVER!! Heres a few pics of my current rail, like I said nothing spectacular but just a reliable buggy that works out rather well. Did I mention I'm one of dem Ky boys?!lol Live in Glasgow Ky, around 30 miles east of Bowling Green. Feel free to point out anything on buggy that could use changed or any pointers to help me out!

We went to Turkey bay in Nov 09, I'd love to go back now that I've finally got a rail. We went to Brimstone Recreation in Huntsville Tn this past may and it turned out to be pretty good overall. Only thing I really bitched bout is on the little map they give ya it shows a spot off main trail saying "hill climb". Place is approx. 20,000 acres and by the time we got all the way over where the "hill climb" was supposed to be they had it blocked off with huge rocks to keep people out.. By huge I mean the size of a fkn hummer  I even took pic of the hill and the sign they posted... We ride at a few local farms that are welcome to public that are here in central Ky. Also went to Black Mtn few years back but that was before I had a rail and couldn't thoroughly enjoy myself. And Aug 7th & 8th we're planning a ride down to Royal Blue in Pioneer Tn, Thank god for GPS cause I don't have first clue where that is! Anyone of ya'll been to Royal Blue? Here's the "hillclimb" or so they say at Brimstone Rec

I've been to royal blue, and the riding was good, no real hills that we could find. The biggest downfall was the price to camp. I dont remember what we paid, but it was WAY too much!

I haven't checked on camping prices but a buddy of mine thats kinda puttin the trip together said just to ride there per day costs like $30...Hell it seems last time I went to turkey bay at LBL it was only like $15 for 2 or 3 day permit??? (correct me if I'm wrong)

turkey bay is 15 for 3 days or 60 a year.

8 dollars a night to camp. Or if your street legal you can camp at Fenton about 3 miles away, they have electric.

Good chance I will be at turkey bay this weekend.

Welcome fellas... Glad you joined the site.

As for your motor, there is a lot to be said for a reliable 1600 dual port. You can tow all the 2500 and 3200 buggies back to camp after they blow up

So so true at times. There were 2 buggys at brimstone, one with 2276 and other was 1915. I seen em both broke down several times and I kept creeping along! BUt when they were running they absolutely blew me ode the trail like nothing...

Another question for ya'll. I've been on the hunt for a good carb and happened to talk to a guy that has a holley 5200 it says motorcraft built by holley he said. Said he bought it from advance auto and was only ran on a buggy for few days, said he scattered the motor. Anyways are these decent carbs? The way he talked it was the same carb as a weber 34/36. He priced it for $100 and comes with manifold and air cleaner...sounded WELL worth the money to me, helll of an improvement considering I'm still running an ol Solex single port carb

Sounds like what is referred to as a "progressive" carb. If you get a good one, they are great (on a 1915 or smaller). BUT.....when you get a bad one, it will make you wanna give your buggy away. 8)
$100 is a good price, and not too much to risk, imo.

thanks for the invite man, I've rode LBL before but until this past winter I've always had dirt bikes...I haven't had chance to ride LBL or black mountain in buggy yet. I don't know how I went without a buggy as long as I did!!!

very good chance that I'll be seeing you next weekend. Just so happens me and the wife was looking for something to do that weekend (she's off work that weekend), and she actually mentioned something bout loading up and taking the buggy somewhere. I should know here if a few days exactly what we're goingto do and I'll give you a shout

And BTW I'm thrilled that as of tomorrow I'm FINALLY going to be able to take that junk ass solex carb off my buggy for good!!! Going to pick up a Holley 5200 2 barrel carb with intake in the morning. I've never personally ran one of these carbs but he said it was the same thing as the Weber 34/36 if I remember correctly. Regardless, $100 for the carb which is nearly new, matching intake and air cleaner. I figured it should be worth that much, and theres no possible way that it could run as shitty as that tiny ass Brazilian POS I've been battling with the past several months!!!
