With my truck a 24' would be the max that I would want to handle with these East Tennessee hills and such a small motor. 24' would give me the room I want and be able to do what I have planned on.

baddvw, have you had head gasket and head stud problems with that '03 6.0 yet? they are very common for that. there isa dealership in canton called mullinax ford that will replace the head studs with ARP studs. just curious.

I think he has a Ram 1500? I don't think that would pull a 24' trailer very well. He would have to check the rating for that truck.

I already had problems with the 6.0L, the head gaskets blew around Thanksgiving Day, it occured around 68,000 miles and I had them replaced with head studs for the warranty work=$100 studs=$450. They went ahead and put on new heads,

The weight of the trailer dry is 5550#, it is rated for 12k# GVWR my truck pulls it just fine loaded around 9500# total with 2 buggies, and other stuff in it and it gets around 14MPG pulling it, and around 17-18MPG

I think the ram will pull it just fine, it depends on what gear ratio it has. Common size is 3.73, should have a 4.10, usually special ordered on 1500 trucks with towing packages.

I went from a 30' to a 24' .
Sure miss the extra room but the bigger one weighed 7500# empty and put #1500 on the hitch even with the torsion bars cranked tight.
Hard on my dually and it pulled like a parachute..... :evil:
Decide to get a lighter trailer and bought the 24'.[/quote]

Just make sure your truck GVRW matches your trailer GVRW, you can give or take 1000# and it will be fine. It may bog your motor down a little on them hills, but if you have 4.10 gears, it will help a lot. It also depends on your trailer size too, not how long, but how tall. Mine is special ordered for be 12" taller to have mor

I would love to have a Cummins!, but I found a better deal on this truck when hunting for one, I gave $31,000 for this, and it has 11,000 miles on it in 2004, so it was practically new at the time, so I saved about $15,000 on buying me a new one. :P

When I first bought the truck, I wanted to make more power out of it, so I bought an Edge Juice module with a monitor and installed it. First thing that happened is frying the clutch while doing a burnout, so I bought a f-550 dual-mass flywheel and pressure plate, and a 8-puck clutch from South Bend Clutch and changed it. It is noticably different! It will not slip now, I can take off hard and the tires will bark when shifting gears all the way to 4th gear on dry pavement, and the truck will be all over the road all the way to 6th gear on wet pavement. I loved it! I do not have the Juice on it anymore, I am going to try something different now. It ran 20-22mpg on highway with the juice, and now it is around 16-17mpg without it. :evil:

It may be rated but I wouldn't do it.
Half ton truck and a big trailer is asking for trouble.

I wish it had better gearing in it, it has 3.55 which sucks. That gearing and the 4.7L (286ci) is some

I wish I had a deisel. My 05 2500hd chevy with 6.0L (gas) gets only about 12mpg unloaded and 11 loaded with 4.10 gears. Need more motor less gear.

I get 14.8 without the trailer and 14.2 with it. Seems odd but thats what it works out to be. I want to stick in a computer chip but not sure that would help me or not.

TWK, don't you have oversized tires on stock gears? that might be part of the issue, i run 315 75 16 on a 3/4 ton dodge, and i can tell a difference. not a huge but enough, havent towed with it yet tho. just a thought

Hey Wild Kids if you try to drag 9,000 pounds around the mountains with that truck you know your mileage will most likely be in the single digits. That's the bummer of a toy box. They can get heavy when they are big.:(
