Just joined today. I am building a zero budget baja bug for trail riding and a small amount of woods riding. I had a tube buggy, but it is literally falling apart. Welds cracking, trans mounts ripped out, etc, etc. So I decided to abandon it and start over with this 72 bug that was given to me. Field buggy would be more accurate than woods buggy. I got all the unwanted sheetmetal cut off, now it's time for the buildup. I am doing a 4 point, maybe 6 point cage to stiffen it back up after cutting off the roof. It will be a 4 seater. I have a complete transmission ready to go in, and a running 1600 ready. And I have the wheels and tires ready too. Just have to do all the work! http://www.superbeetlesonly.com/forum/i ... st&id=1239

Welcome to the site! I have had many Baja Bugs over the years and I have some advice for you. Do not cut off the top. The car will last longer and it will be much safer if you leave it whole.

Good Luck and have fun!

Too late! Anyway, the way I'm building the cage, the body won't really be structural, more for decoration. Thanks for the welcome. his site is cool, because I don't play in the sand and that's what most "off road" sites seem to be.
