just wanted to pass this link along www.lm4w.org This link is for the Line Mountian 4 wheelers club series of races they hold in the summer, nice Trophies, and a hefty points fund . this place is located about 1/2 hour NW of Harrisburg, we have alot of fun, camp out, race and let our true red neck interselves come out. the series is 3 races, the last race ,the 7 miler (4 laps at 7 miles=28 miles) last year pulled in about 135 trucks and buggys, they leave the line 30 seconds apart. the course is wild, (last year my wife raced her Nissan p/u , it took her 1 hour 35 min to do 1 lap) anyway look at the site and if your going to be there let me know, well drop by and bring a lil beer for your crew. ALSO SEE GENERAL RULES
1. FRONT END AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS
Type 1 ball joint or link pins. Any tie rod and tie rod ends allowed. Front
torsion tubes may be additionally supported or replaced. Front axle torsion tube
centers may be cut, rotated and re-welded to increase ground clearance. Sway bars
may be removed. Any manufacturer’s front/rear torsion bars allowed. Front/rear
torsion adjusters allowed. Front end must remain stock Type 1 width. Steering
open. Front shock towers may be modified, extended or replaced. Trailing arms
(torsion arms) must be stock Type 1 style plus or minus (+ or -) one (1) inch.
May be reinforced. Stock mounting stud on bottom trailing arm may be increased in
size or relocated.
Suspension limiters allowed.
Spindles may be reinforced, modified or replaced.
No power steering.
2. REAR SUSPENSION:
Type 1 IRS or Swing Axles. IRS swing arms may be modified for strengthening
purposes as long as stock IRS style swing arms are retained plus or minus (+ or
- ) one (1) inch. The stock dimensions between the center line of the torsion
housing to center line of the rear stub axle is 16.250” plus or minus (+ or-)
one (1) inch. Outboard bus reduction gears are allowed. Any manufacturer’s VW
replacement axles, rear torsion bars, however original type suspensions must be
additionally supported or replaced but must retain Type 1 track as measured from
the backing plate flange to the backing plate flange. 51”
3. No limit on number of shock absorbers and size of shock absorbers. Cooling
fins allowed.
4. Any manufacture and size tires and rims allowed. (no smooth tires, no tire
chains).
5. Functioning 4 wheel brakes are required. (Drum brakes only) Must be a
controlled stop at inspection.
6. Battery ignition only. No magnetos. Six or twelve volt system maybe used
regardless of year model. Any manufacture distributor may be used. Any VW type
alternator generator system in stock location may be utilized.
7. Engine must utilize VW series Type 1, 1600 cc US model sedan components and
dimensions. The maximum allowable engine displacement is 1600 cc. Any
manufacturer’s engine bearing allowed as long as stock dimensions are
maintained. Any VW modifications may be made to the stock case. Intake manifold
must be stock. However, cutting of the manifold to compensate for head milling
is allowed: re-welding will not be allowed. Those manifolds which have been cut
and re-welded must be cut again, and assembled by use of rubber hose and clamps,
or by some other suitable method so that the interior of the manifold can be
inspected during technical inspection. No chemical milling of manifold or carb.
Automatic choke housing may be removed. Choke plate and shaft may be removed and
the holes plugged. Electric needle valve optional. The stock float bowl may be
incorporated. Any air main jet. Any combination of stock fuel pump or
electric pump may be used. Heater tubes optional. Aftermarket fan shrouds
allowed.

Do you have a "Run what you brung" class? The whole concept sounds like fun but the rules are pretty restrictive. Sounds like you need a purpose built machine to race. I would come to something like that if I could use what I've got right now but my disc brakes and extra 79ccs puts me out.

I've heard of that Line Mountain race, didn't know their rules were so 'pickey'.
You guys are more than welcome to ride with us at Wellsville, only 3 or 4 hours away.

that class listed above is only 1 OF 4 classes, there is a stock class( see above) a modified class then a open modified and the last class is a open watercooled class. you can figure any buggy you all may have should fit into one the the above, there a class for everyone at this race,

They really only run a stock class and modified class. If you have 4 wheel brakes and the safety stuff they will let you race. Seat belts don't need to be dated or anything that strict. Window nets, horn, fire ext. some type of floor, firewall , sides etc. It is the best race i ever watched and raced in. It's the Baja race of the woods. The main goal of the race really is too just finish. I think the average is about 30% of the field to finish.

I run at line mountain and I know they will let you guys run in the mod class as long as you have the things Ken said about they are VERY easy to work with more buggies we can get there the better

They don't race Pickup trucks at the same time do they? I ask because the only race I was in during 08 cost me a lot of carnal damage because a truck broad sided me at a very high rate of speed.

yes they do but its not really a wheel to wheel track it is through the woods you may get bumped from the rear if your going to slow but not a whole lot you are supposed to use the horn to move people. It really is a great time the last race was the 7 miler and it was more like 8 miles a lap for 4 laps. And the rules alow just about any combination buggy within reason (probaly no V-8s)
