The Ocala National Forest is the second largest National Forest in Florida and covers approximately 607 square miles (389,000 acres) in central Florida.
The Ocala National Forest offers an accommodating climate for year round recreation. The mild winters are fine for family camping. The temperatures for the dry months of November through February range from a daily average of 50 F to a high of 72 F. The summer season is much warmer and wetter. Short afternoon thundershowers often raise the humidity to about 90% while the temperatures range from 80 F to 95 F. The average rainfall is approximately 55 inches per year.
The Lake Delancy Area is located in the northern most end of the forest. There is a campground there that is divided into two parts. Delancy East and West. Delancy East is more suited to RVs but does not permit OHVs into the campground. Delancy West is more just woods with smaller open areas for camping. Delancy West does allow for OHVs though. And you can ride Buggies, ATVs, and motorcycles directly from your campsite onto a trail head.
There are several trail systems in this area. And unless you have a licensed and registed vehicle you must stay on the trail systems. Some of the trails are very wide and easy for buggies, jeeps, and trucks. Others are pretty tight, narrow trails that only ATVs and bikes can use.
There are also several pits throughout this area of the forest. Some are closed off, but many of them are still open to the public.
Most of the areas are covered with a hammok of trees so even during the hotest part of the summer it isnt too bad. And usually during the summer it has rained enough to almost completely eliminate any dust.
All in all, this is definately the best riding public OHV location in the state of Florida.

Sorry for the lack of buggies and the pics being old. Hopefully new pics of the area will be posted in a few months with a better description of the area from a buggy pilots perspective :P

I have been ride in ocala for about two years now lots of fun not much of a problem with park rangers . there are lots of trails to ride all clearly maked for bikes, 4 wheelers, and jeeps(buggys). all you need is a valid tag on you ride and have your paper work with you and you are fine.

I run the OCALA forest for years from saint frainces loop up to salt springs and all around Big Scrub.Had a blast until they shut the pits down about 12-13 yrs ago. It is a great place to run fast sandy trails for miles and miles . It probably compairs to BAJA. There should be an annual race there.
