Somebody on this site knows a military friend stationed in Europe. I traveled Europe extensively and that's why I have a shed full of 5 speeds and what ever speeds. They are 456 , 483 and 486. 542's are plentiful. South America is a gold mine aswell. The 5 speeds have 411 1st ,233 2nd etc. |

Here's a link to go westy about the 5 speed. A bit pricey but you may get lucky and find one but it is difficult as vanagons were never sold with 5 speeds in the USA. http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details. ... parent_id= |

Canada had 5 some speeds. My son Austin has ran one since '05 and one finally blew up in 2012 . They are indestructable except they have the same pinion bearing . When they get loose or sloppy , there goes your r and p. (Keep your diff bearings adjusted periodicly and maybe he could have went longer). You'll have to run a 1/8" or 3/16" plate encompassing the frame horn giant bolts and between the bell housing and trans. NO thicker because thicker takes away the hiegth of your 2 big dowel pegs coming out of the case. Compared to a 538 4 speed, it will extend your motor back 2 1/4" so watch out for your exhaust hitting your cage. His 486 5 sp. final gearing, comparing to a 4 speed, is 529. His old broken 483 was like a 526:1 (in 1st gear). The 5 speed is ideal for strength and turning 38"' Boggers. I named 2 dogs once, Bogger and Swamper . lol Or you can simplify and save many $1ks and simply go fwd longways. |

ok, I learn from everyone on here. I was going to run bus suspension but now I am saving my money so I can get the mad mike suspension kit with air bags (advertisement is free with me). I am not a rich man so I read and learn from everyone on here . I would like to join everyone next year at the hill climb when I get my buggy running. thank's |
