I am designing accessories for all buggy applications.

How much you paying? I have, repairable [needs 3/4 hub] or one with hole in gear carrier. Also one good but model without locker.

The same. Have you got a syncro transmission(s) for me?

I am back into this crazy hobby once again.
I started an offroad 4wd buggy thread (transmissions)and
I will be documenting a new build with alot of pictures.
(hopefully).

Jim, might also want to consider Subaru. There is a reversed 4:86 ring and pinion available. I know this build I'm doing now is the last I'll do with a VW trans.

I am with you Mike... When I blow up my 6rib, I will most likely go to a Subaru. Although, I have not see a lot of off road examples and I am a little worried since the R&P is so small.

Are you talking about foreign auto in Streetsboro oh, if so that guy is crazy on his prices,wants like 550 for a three rib

Stock Subie will handle 280hp a properly prepared box will handle 650hp according to these guys.

When I spoke with them last year, they were a little concerned about running 35 inch tires. Now that they have the 4.86 gears, the suby trans should be fine with 35 inch tires.

Buy a mendeola at least there is the you break it they replace it once. I can't imagine the shipping from Australia

Shipping is ridiculous. I got a set of wheel adapters from China a few years ago for $11 apiece. Custom made. Customs held ransom on them for $90. Between shipping and customs, I lost my tail.

Still cheaper to use a Subie that I would build myself. $2,000 plus the cost of a 5 speed trans verses $6500 for an entry level MD4E Mendeola.
At that rate I could scatter 2 Subie set ups and still not have the same coin as a Mendeola.
I know the next question is which is stronger. I have no idea but I do know this, a stock Subie trans is designed to hold up to 280hp. A stock VW box was designed to stand up to what, 100hp max?

Mike I knew you would chime in on this one. I think the Subie trans built domestically could be the answer, but I don't want to be the guy experimenting. I did that with VW trans building got a lot of practice pulling the buggy apart and talking dirty

Subaru gears already has an American distributor down south somewhere. I have looked into them as well. That saves on the shipping hassle. The last time I was on their site they only advertised a 4.4:1 r&p. 4.86 would be nice.

I only ever see synchro transmissions on ebay for huge $$$... and Colorado... but they were all still in vans driving around. Must have seen 15 synchro vans in a week out there...

They now have a 4.86 R&P, that's the main reason running a Subie trans becomes doable for what we do. If they have a US distributor, it's a real closely guarded national secret. If they had one, I doubt they would list shipping to the US.
