Anyone have a spare poly tank or alumium tank lyin around? using a boat tank as of now. not really looking to ship local would be best

I have been tinkering with the idea of converting HF's 11 gallon air tank into a gas tank and use a sealer to protect it again rust. You can get the bung with screw cap on ebay for $18. Tank costs $35 new. Sealer is $20. That is less than half the cost of a new aluminum tank. I have a good mig and plasma cutter, don't know its worth it if you have to pay someone to do it.

I strongly sugest not using a poly tank. the bungs are fragile and tend to strip out or leak.

X3 I ran one when I first started and guys told me not to for the same reason and walla it started leaking .
You could find a used one for around 50 bucks some times cheaper .

There is nothing wrong with using a GOOD Poly tank, not the China buggy junk you guys are use to using. The ONLY problem using a Poly tank is the selection YOU make on the lid selection. The flush or aviation style lid is TRASH, it WILL allow water (and dirt) to get in and gas to get out. The raised lid is the ONLY lid to use on ANY exposed tank. Any poly tank I have ever seen or used has aluminum AN fuel line fittings so there is no problem there. My first car had two poly tanks in it, I had zero problems with them. My Funco project also has a poly tank, I don't foresee any problems with it as well.

People have and will ignore this piece of advice and then bad mouth EVERY poly tank out there. Kinda like being warned about matches, F#$% around with them and get burned, then start bad mouthing all matches.

For the record, I have fixed more than my fair share of aluminum tanks for leaks because rocket scientists ignore the mounting instructions and good common sense when installing them.

Poly fuel cell is one thing, cheap round poly tanks is another.
I've seen those things sag on a hot day when full.
Have heard of them rupturing on a bad tumble down a hill.
Spun aluminum is the safer choice.

Keep on eye on Samba. Two weeks ago they had a poly tank for $50 and 5 minutes ago I paid for a nice 8"x30" aluminum tank ($100 shipped to AL). Good deals are out there.

Mike, I was talking about the poly fuel tanks from places like latest rage. A poly fuel cell is a whole different animal. We have run poly fuel cells for years in race buggies with no issues.

have not dave. Would be extremely helpful if somone did, i blew the trans last weekend so that takes away the money for a NEW tank that i really want. so used is hopefully what ill get if i find one. lol i have mounts already welded in for a poly or alumium spun.
