Here is a rack and pinion that I got with a bunch of other stuff, I don't need it. 161 stamped on it, don't know who made it, looks pretty stout. One boot is ripped, input shaft turns although a little chunky, not bad just don't want anyone to be surprised, everything moves from lock to lock. $100 o.b.o. + shipping from 49424, Holland, MI. Trades welcome!

Good eye!!! Any other info on this rack would be greatly appreciated (manufacturer, og application, etc)I just checked it and it is in fact a front steer rack. So, anybody out there running their tie rods in front of their spindles? This is the rack for you!

Thanks for the info guys, normally an on-road guy... 16:1, hmmmm, I guess that's why it's stamped "161", duh! As I said, on road... :?

All the mounting ideas you've thrown out are quite possible...but, you gotta have this rack first.

What your saying is it takes 16 turns of the steering wheel rack to to rack. I don't think so. I would say the 161 is a production run number.

The steering ratio is the ratio of how far you turn the steering wheel to how far the wheels turn. For instance, if one complete revolution (360 degrees) of the steering wheel results in the wheels of the car turning 22.5 degrees, then the steering ratio is 360 divided by 22.5, or 16:1. A higher ratio means that you have to turn the steering wheel more to get the wheels to turn a given distance. However, less effort is required because of the higher gear ratio.
Most sweet racks are available in 8,12, or 16 to 1 ratios.

Hmm! Interesting as I have always been taught that rack ratios where determined by how many turns of the wheel it takes to cycle it from one end stop to the other. As in 1:1, 1.5/1, 3:1 etc.
