I could not read the vin code on the side but i got the gear code and it starts with DU. hope this helps

Where do you find the gear code on the trans? I wrote down the serial # and it ended with d2.Cant find it on chart

if you flip trans up on bell and look at the bottom of it it will be on the left side on the bottom a space about 1" x 4" flat.

Pull up http://www.partsemporium.co.uk then type 25 gearbox codes(british for transmission) type 25 means vanagon.It gives ALL bus trans ratios.
