thanks fo rthe info guys!!\

im lookin to do / buy a big chain drive like the on e in the vid i posted. but i dont knowi f ima go v8 for power. maybe v6....or i had considered a northstar caddy setup since they are cheap.

if i build one im leanin toward :

1)a mean 4 cylinder...maybe a modded ecotec or somehting....id like to at least be around 200 horsepower if i go that route....

2)1.5 to 1 reduction with 80 series chains/sprockets...(should be able to run a three rib with the torque reduction generated by the chains)

3) tubular trailing arms with bus to bus cvs turning the sprockets....(may have to have custom length axles

4) two seater

5) 35-36 inch grooved bias tires

6) build will be based on a knock down frame kit from a major manufacturer most likely.

7) most likely air bag suspension in back (no torsion housing at all....just a square tube in its place to build on)....standard vw in front

what yall think???

you could build one like in the video (if you did it all yourself) for around 10k. of course this could be more or less depending on what parts you used, where you got them, and how patient and resourceful you are in finding said parts.

That's odd that this popped up today. I was looking for ncbuggy's old ad last night. Not that I can buy it, but was curious if he ever sold it.

Who is building and running chain drives any more? I haven't seen on in some time. Seen them for the first time at Livingston / cromer's ridge in the late 90s. I've seen them at d and k. Then the lat time I've seen one was at Harlan several years ago.

Yea what Rock said. If I remember right wade's chaindrive has a 383 stroker dual propane injection and would smoke those 44s off on the pavement. A lot of the parts on it are from NASCAR when he work for Roush racing not sure if he is still with them. It has floating rotors for the Bristol track those are bad ass if I had the money I would love to have it I've seen it climb a lot of s**t in fultondale back in the day Awesome buggy

Well...got my hopes up anyway! Chaindrives are a rare breed and I hope someone starts building them again. I'd love to see more of them in the woods

yea because those chains weigh a ton...plus the extra sprockets...youre probrably gonna need a couple 18 wheelers to haul it!

If you scroll 6 topics up from this posting in Buggies 4 sale, I have mine up for sale. exactly what you're watching in the youtube video you go attached. Only difference is the motor. You can do a simple motor swap and your own your way. Give me a shout & we can talk.

there is no such thing as a "simple motor swap" in a CD.1st to change from a 4 banger to a v6 or v8 you have to change all the coil springs,Shocks. And from looking at yours it still has the Monroe's on it and they stopped making them so all the mounts have to be changed. Then you need a automatic trany and there ain't no more of them  sure you can get a auto trany but it will not hold up unless it's built and there are only 3 people I know that can do that and we ain't building them no more.then you have the expense of the power plant you want (just because it's a v8 don't make it a buggy motor) Your average v8 has less HP than a 2500 VW motor. Then you have the problem with the trailing arms .Yours has 28 it needs at least 34 on it I prefer 36 just to control the power. but that's just me.so no there is no such thing
