Damm! That hill really does SUCK! Even if you make it to the top you either have to make a major left or stop within 10 feet before hitting a sandstone wall! |

I heard he was ok but had a concusion. Someone said he was at his camp loading up to head home. I'm glad his wife got out cause the pass side roll bar took a hard hit. |

that really sucks, i am glad he is okay. on another note, there are many many many buggies running around wellsville trying to climb things they shouldn't be and most with zero bracing, hopefully an accident like this will encourage some to re-think their lack of roof braces. |

Dougs buggy is very well built, any one who saw it will tell you. Thats why he is alive today.. That buggy picked up alot of speed about mid way down the hill rolling more and faster than any of us could count. He had braced the roof from the torsion up to the roof behind his head, Gussets in all corners quarter inch plate above his head , reinforced bars in shoulder area , it was not under built , it was just that hard of a roll over. That you tube vid, does not begin to show what really happened. We are all just glad he will be ok. |

As hard of a roll it was I thought it held up well. I'm glad he built it well. It looked very bad in the vid and wouldn't want to see it in person. Those vids never look as bad as it really is. |

Thank you for the compassion and the lack of "armchair coaching".I added 2 crush bars an extra roll bar and a 1/8 plate over the back roof of cockpit in the Spring just for a situaution like this where I didn't have the skills to pay the bill.It was a bad bounce to the left that started the whole mess and this is a technical hill that you all know has to be nailed. Being on your back for 3 days staring at the ceiling gave me time to form up a new game plan though and I want to throw this out there. Anything tossed off the top of a steep hill is going to roll but my buggy rolled excessively fast and for a reason. I added extra "shoulder tubes" to protect the shoulders in a rollover for this style buggy and while I knew it rolled across the shop floor easy I accepted the trade off for the upper extremity protection. If you sliced my buggy midpoint and looked down the centerline the profile would probably look more like a lumpy log than every chassis builders favorite triangle. Did it work? Yes, for an unconcious person that can't hold himself in there's nothing better. Will I do it that way again? Probably not, but only because of this singular experience.Time to go get another Vicodin |

wasn't trying to be a dick, but we all know the amount of buggys with zero bracing running around, can't really tell in the video pluswith the extent of injuries i tried putting 2 and 2 together. i rolled 6 times sideways at hillsville and somehow luckily came out unscathed with only one bent roof bar, that's why i noted bracing. glad you're okay and are keeping with it! |

My dad went down to the bottom with everyone and helped. Glad your okay. And my buddies say YEEE-HAW brotha! recover quick |

There was never even a whiff of anyone being a dick here.Everyone is right on in every post. My buggy only needs a top kicker,2 back braces, rear engine hoop, and a trip to the shop press for the front beam.Easily could be done for Labor Day. Me on the other hand will need 6-12 weeks depending on how the neck heals back together.I've got some down time which will turn into build time because that Ecotec sitting on my garage floor is gonna need a good home. Thanks all and Buggy for Life |
