Might wanna go thru the BOTM winners . Most of them list their specs.
Value to build and value to sell are very subjective.

Starting with absolutlely nothing , IMO $10K min to build a decent hillclimber, 16K to $17K to build a killer one (Most of that is motor and trans) if you do it right the first time and dont have to rebuy a bunch of stuff.

Far as trailrider, $4K-$5k would get you to most places just easing around, having some fun but not driving it like you stole it. To fly wide open in rough ass trails/terrain, apparently you need to spend $4k on shocks alone, so I'd guess $8k- $10k min to build a reliable trail rider you can beat on a lil bit. Even on a trailrider the lighter it is, the less it will break suspension n stuff, so lighter is cheaper sometimes....ie no need for $4k shocks IMO.

Just buy one already built and change it how you want it as you ride it, much better off. Get a $10K build for 4 or 5 g's.

LOL Brett   . The thing you are looking for is a really cheap thing to add to your buggy. It fits in a cooler, I prefer it ice cold, and there are lots of varieties!

I bought this roller from a buddy for around $800, and had most of the parts sitting around to build it or I made the parts.
2332 cc
vanagon w/c 6-rib
sway-away shocks
woods 4" over arms
woods combo spindles
home made full hydro power steering
i'm guessing that I have around $5000 in the build (the motor has atleas that in it but I already had it sitting around)
