Good project. Keep us updated on your progress. I was thinking about doing a Karmann Ghia. |

Had a little spare time this week and started on the engine compression check, one cylinder had 'bout 72 psi the others 140 +. took the head off & exhaust valve bad. Went ahead and took other side off for valve job on both. The rocker arms or the adjusting screw beat the heck out of the top valve stems. Both sides, I don't see how it was running. While I'm down this far I'm putting new rings in to. The guy I bought it from said he drove it home & pulled the engine said it was a 1600. Its not, it has 90.5 pistons in it so I'm guessing its a 1776. Not sure on cam, the dist is points forgot the #'s on it, would like to put a 009 w/o points in it. I'm going to fix the rear apron where i can remove it for engine removal without having to jack it up. I've got a 34 pict carb rebuilt for it but would like a webber 40 or 44 2bb on it from my rail and get dual carbs for my rail. I'm not messing with my rail until after the hill climb Saturday.I try to post some pic soon. Any and all comments are welcome. Tony |

Its a clean looking bug. If your running the stock exhaust it can cook exhaust valves. |

Yea replace all of the valves putting back together with new rings and rocker arm assembly w/o the springs. Going to with the stock exhaust for heat in the winter months. Have a 34 carb I'm putting on it, hope it's enough. Tony
