Post subject:  BeeLine Buggy Project part 1

What a ton of info everyone!! :D :D Thanks for all who post. I am new to buggy's but not new to offroading. I have ran Jeeps when I was younger and been riding 4wheelers for a while now. Looking something that I can take the kids with me too so I am buying a buggy.

So far I have found this frame. Bee Line 4 seater with Pack Rat option. Made a verbal contract but no monies exchanged just yet. Also been talking to Phil at the bug shack about hooking up a Saturn engine with a 6 rib transmission.

I am new to this so I'm sure I will be doing a lot of digging in the forums and asking questions. Please forgive me if I ask stupid ones!

Special thanks to Eric Deborde for your website. Tons of great info!!

Welcome to the site!!

In my opinion, you made a wise decision in getting your family into a buggy instead of four wheelers, especially if you got young 'uns! 100 times safer. Hope you dont mind wrenchin' though. Thats a huge part of our hobby. Especially in the beginning. Dont get discouraged!

I imagine you'll be amazed at how some obstacles in the woods seem like nothing in a buggy, when they made you pucker up in a Jeep!

There's no such thing as a dumb question when building your first buggy, so ask away!

It's taking awhile but slowly moving forward. Here is some updated pics.
I have decided to make it a three seater since my little one is the only one that will fit back there. Also those are my street tires. I have a set of new cut firestones that will go on when I find some dirt track beadlocks. Any and all feedback welcomed. I haven't done any of the work so far as I bought a rolling chassis and all of this was part of the deal.

I really like that frame! Looks like you're already set-up for a bellhousing mount for a bus tranny. By the way, I think you oughta go ahead and use all four seats, that rear seat in the middle is dead in the way of the tranny. Maybe hold off on mounting anything too permanently till you get the drive train sorted out.

The rear seat will be on a raised aluminum plate that covers that whole section so as to keep the crud out a little. :)

Time for engine and tranny. Phil's Bug Shop in Grayson, KY is hooking me up. Saturn engine with a 6 rib. First time I had it on the trailer. Trailer's too short, gonna have to modify a little. Didn't know to add 3 inches for the extended trailing arms when i had the trailer built.

Got my buggy back from Phil today. Engine and tranny are in. I'm real happy with the looks. Worried about the radiator being so close to my daughter. Have to do some studying on that one. Stuck the pedals and turning brake in just to see how it looks. Need to get the exhaust tucked up and out of the way. Still allot to do. Engine sounds pretty sweet!! Can't wait to get it rolling :) Hopefully i'll be riding with some of you guys soon!

Met PurpleRail at Phil's today. Good meetin ya man!

Got my beadlocks in too. Does anyone run a wide five beadlock in the front? If so what size?

Thanks

BTW: The roof rack is for the Groceries and Doughnuts!!1 LOL

Lookin great. I am glad to see you went through with the buggy. As for the bead locks on the front. Unless you just like the way they look I wouldn't worry about them. The bead locks are really ment to keep the wheel from spinning obn the rim. I would recomend that you put tubes in the front if you ever bend your rim the tubes will most likely stay inflated and keep the tire up. My 2 cents on the suject.

Might won't to consider putting a piece of lexan behind thad babby girls seat to protect her from oil and the heat. All you need to make sure is that you have 4-5 in from the radiator and put two decent fans onto the radiator and it should not be a problem. I will be starting on a four seater later this summerand it will be wc as well. Your buggy looks cool were glad to see more family's getting involved

You going with a suby motor when you build yours? Been wondering if I should have.[/quote]

I will be puttin a 2850 esslinger motor on it or a 2500 ranger motor the subby has to many wires and sensors the simpler the better for me.
