Whats the overall lenth of the arms? stub to pivit.

Author:  Firebug [ Sat Feb 23, 2008 9:24 pm ]
Post subject:

I gained 4 inches of ground clearance with about 15 inches of usable travel and the arms are 30 inches long from pivot to stub,,,I think that is about 11 or 12 longer that stock? 8)

Looks good! I always wondered if anyone put the drive axle from the transmission to somewhere in the middle of the trailing arm. I have considered how I could modify in the future to be a chaindrive and this would be a good answer. With some type 4 or 930 cv's being that close to the pivot point of the trailing arm you could get some serious travel if you wanted. When is the a-arm front coming? Now you'll want more on the front side to match the back. It's always something!!

Hey forty, recongize that 6 rib?, the a-arms are in the future but not too near.I'm fairly nervous about the trail trial. I will probably baby it for a while. Or maybe not

Good start you have there firebug. Will you have to recalculate your shock mounting point or leave it where it is? Can't wait to see it when your done.

I'm gonna try to leave the top shock mount alone and hope the limiting strap dictates the bottom mount. Depends then if the shock dont compress too much at full compression. The bags serve as a bump stop and limit at full compression. :?

Post subject:  Adjustment?

Nice work! Where did you buy your chain and sprockets? Are you adjusting the chains with an idler?

Sprockets came from online,,,Service (correction Surplus ) Center,,,the trailing sprocket is mounted on a sliding carrier for adjustment...
Remember this is a prototype and WILL have issues. The next set will have many improvements,,including being built from Chromoly.

That is some very neat craftmanship!! Keep up with the good work! Hope everything works out good. Well anyways, I guess I will still just stick to my old setup I have now, maybe later I will try building something like it

Hi firebug,

Nice idea, thats nice and simple but clever. I tried to Google Service Center, but no luck in finding sprockets. I need help with the search. Is there something else that I need to google besides Service Center ?

Thanks for your help,
Al

I never use google service, cannot find as much on google, I use Yahoo, it's easier and finds more for you.

I don't know about quality but try the local Tractor Supply. They seem to carry a lot of chains and sprockets. Also try www.mcmastercarr.com they have tons of sprockets and chains.

Toradi, the front sprocket has 16 teeth and the rear 19 teeth, this puts my 6 rib to about 542.

OOps,,,I lied,,,its Surplus Center,,,try this
http://www.surpluscenter.com/powerTrans ... powerTrans

Here is a site for sprocket dimensions etc.

Looks good Bug. My nephew Cyle and I put bags on his buggy today. They turned out great. Might be the way to go. Certianly cheaper than my coilovers.
