That is awesome. It must be fun to open it up and haul across the sand. I bet there are buggies on here that have never hit 4th gear.

Just wondering, how different is the baja 1000 than just running on dunes? When my daughter turns 16 I want to run the baja 1000 with her. (I am sure it will never happen but it is always nice to have a goal)

I would love to visit there someday. Isn't it like 20 miles long and 5 miles wide?

45 miles long and 6 miles wide however 22 miles of usable dunes. A portion go into Mexico and on the north side there are closures for wild life and vegetation. So, yeah you were about right. 360,000 acre or so.

There are 2 different types of cars here, sandcars and dual sport cars. you can run a dual sport car in the dunes if your power plant will carry it but running a sandcar in the dirt will generally tear it up. Typically our sandcars aren't built stout enough to handle the aggressive pounding the dirt dishes out. Your guys cars are probably built better for something like the Baja. Now a days with the big v8 cars they kinda make them handle both. There is a skill involved in driving a 3500lb car in the sand though. get a big car like that stuck, and you will, better have another big car to jerk you out. light cars like mine can be lifted out by myself and my wife and we're on our way. The flotation on the light cars keeps them on top of the sand so it rare you cant back out or something. Seems with 500 to 1000hp its tough to not just burry the car once it starts to dig in. Those guys are running 37" paddles now so that helps.

Snow blindness is a real problem around high noon. Not seeing shadows can ruin your day. Drove off about a 10' drop at about 40mph last season. Car landed amazingly well. My wife drove her rzr off behind me, then 3 subaru cars. They were fine with long travel suspension.
